The worst thing about Davos? The Masters of the Universe think they are do-gooders
The UK Guardian ^ | 1/19/2023 | Hamilton Nolan

Has there ever been a “meeting that should have been an email” so glaring as Davos? Each year, the world’s masters of politics and finance ride carbon-spewing jets to the World Economic Forum in a lavish Swiss resort town bristling with armed guards, where they opine somberly about solving poverty and climate change. The very act of attendance exposes all the subsequent dialogue as hypocrisy. The event serves primarily as a rare point of unity for political right and left wings, both of whom agree that everyone there should be in jail. If all of these professional decision-makers were really good at decision-making, they would replace the whole farce with an annual quick chat. “So then, we’ll carry on with global capitalism for another year. Agree? Right. Cheerio.”

Davos and similar conclaves can only be understood as performances. They are the stage upon which the Masters of the Universe act out the dramatic narrative of their own lives. They are exercises in mutual self-affirmation: we’re here, and we are important. What good is a powerful position without a rapt audience to listen to one’s pronouncements? Anyone can be rich, but only a select few can be influencers.

Posting ≠ endorsement. It's from a liberal socialist position, not a conservative or Christian perspective, but still made some points here and there, in its own way. Which is surprising, too, because the left doesn't actually seem to pay much attention to the WEF.

Reminds me of a joke when I was a kid. A Boy Scout showed up at a meeting all black and blue.

“What happened to you, Joey?”

“Well . . . I helped a little old lady across the street.”

“And that is where you got all the bruises?”

“Well, yeah . . . she didn’t want to go. . . .”

WEF, we don’t want your help getting “across the street”.

I think a couple of might have convinced themselves that they’re do gooders but how can a person, any person, who is uber rich and privileged, attend Davos without thinking about what business deals they’re going to get in on and the connections they’re going to make and how that will better their financial sheet.

They don’t actually fly a very expensive privately owned jet and rub elbows with the richest and most powerful with Joe Dirt in mind. No way you can convince me of that.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

Anyone who thinks they are doing good, ‘on the Lord’s side’, possesses
divine revelation, or that they are smarter than average is more dangerous than the typical degenerate criminal.

Smart people don’t tell you they are smart, people who brag about being rich usually aren’t, anyone who claims to be an ‘Alpha Male’ is NOT one, and the more anyone talks about their honesty, values, and trustworthiness, the more closely you should guard their wallet.

Nanzy Pelosi comes to mind, running up and down the hallways of Congress crossing herself while voting for abortion.

Evil.
