The recent announcement that electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Tesla has cut its prices by between six and 20 percent just to maintain its production goals and market share is the latest manifestation of the fading enthusiasm for electric vehicles.

Not shocked.
The electrical grid is already overloaded and..
...during a heat wave last September, just days after Governor Gavin Newsom announced that his state was going 100 percent “green” by 2035, the California Independent System Operator (which runs the state’s power grid) asked residents owning EVs to avoiding charging them during peak usage hours...a complete transition to electric vehicles in the state would require at least 15 times more charging stations than the 80,000 that presently exist.
I was getting alerts every few hours not to charge EVs during the 12-day heat wave. I know of no plan to upgrade, improve or expand California's crumbling electrical grid.
Electric Vehicles are a Dead-End
I think evs will be useful as a runabout for errands in town. Would be good as my 4th vehicle.
I plan to buy one when they’re going for pennies on the dollar.
Not shocked. In an article about EV's. What you did there I see.
One of the car shows put the three hosts in different electric cars and gave them a list of places to go. In the first five minutes of the drive all three said the same thing; “Do I have enough range?” Big time deal breaker for me.
Won’t Harley Davidson be surprised.
There are only so many buyers willing to but a car that is a partial solution for their transportation needs. The affluent who will accept a second commuter vehicle that can only be a commuter vehicle.
The early adopters who want the cool factor bragging.
Most others, will not accept a partial solution to a general need.
Purely electric vehicles are just not anywhere near a point to be a decent general solution. They are a niche product, and there are certainly use cased that they fit very well. If I had a fleet vehicle need with only local daily travel, electric vehicles would be worth consideration. If I already had a general vehicle and wanted a commuter vehicle, would be acceptable option. If I truly only needed a vehicle with limited range it would be acceptable.
Cost however is also an issue. Let’s be real if I just need a commuter vehicle, I can spend 16k for a brand new Nissan Versa, vs 28k for a Nissan Leaf.
The only real viable solution if you want a GENERAL vehicle and reducing CO2 is a priority for you, the hybrid is the viable alternative... purely electric is not.
EVs were a ‘fad’ back in 1895-1915, replaced by steam and ICE engines, and they’re a fad now.
Within ~7yrs, there’ll be millions of unsold EVs, sitting in fields, and the world’s mfgrs’ production plants will be empty, after spending TRILLIONS on this idiotic EV crap.
Ditto with windmills, charging stations, battery production mfgrs’ plants, and solar panels. All kaput.
Few understand Electric is fine, it’s the batteries that suck.
Over 25% of the weight of an EV is the battery, and weight is the most important factor.
Yeah, my interest never got out of the red zone.
Remember Wind Coolers?
They were the biggest thing ever! Every company wanted their own wine cooler. They were going to dominate the beverage market.
They were HUGE. Until they weren’t.
I could have had a V8.
Anyone who has has thought this thru should know we’re not ready for electric cars (EC) yet. I read where you have to process 90 tons of ore to get enough for 1 battery. Think of just the diesel oil cost of moving that much dirt. Factor in a frail grid that can barely handle today’s loads without many ECs and the lack of charging stations and the EC is just not ready for prime time.
Harley is talking 2 decade time frame for dropping ICE.
And Motorcylces are a very different use case.
Majority of cyclists, limited range and recharge times aren’t really a problem... overwhelming majority of motorcycles are toys for their owners. They commute to and from work on nice days, and putter around on weekends... A huge portion of motorcycles have never traveled more than 150-250 miles in a single use. Just go look at the facebook marketplace/ craiglslist, etc... there are no shortage of late model bikes that have low miles on them.
There are the folks who are more hard core, and do ride all the time, take cross country trips etc... but they are by far the minority of motorcycle owners.
An electric cycle has a far larger footprint meeting the average use case for their vehicle than the electric car or truck does.
And in 20 decades, who knows they might actually have the charging times and performance worked out.
There is NO plan. It won’t be long that, instead of nicely asking you to not charge, they’ll just shut off your smart meter. Liberalism, as Michael Savage always said, is a mental disease
What Harley owner doesn’t love the sound of their engine as they rev it up and start down the highway?
This is a clear case of a company not understanding their customers . . . inexcusable in the business world.
