As if we didn’t already have unlimited government borrowing. The “debt ceiling” is a fiction, a joke, whose existence is only to provide a fig leaf of cover for their spending. It’s only to make the rubes back home think they are “doing something.”
They never ran into a “debt ceiling” they couldn’t break through with the stroke of another pen, another Congress, another Speaker, and another President regardless of which party was momentarily in power.
I recall hearing that the debt ceiling has been lifted dozens of times in about the last 50 years. Often it has just been a routine procedure. I guess we’ll see soon enough if the Republicans in the House will stand up against the being browbeaten on this issue.
