The article I gave you was from mid last year on solving rate. And at a rate of 1%, that leaves the other 99% unsolved. It’s very easy to use a fraudulent card as stores don’t look at signatures or ask for other ID. Some people used to print “see ID” on their cards. But the major cards went to court and got a judge to say if that is what they say is their identifying signature, then it passes the test. And if the crook is stupid enough not to sign a blank card because some people left it blank thinking the store would look at it, then they probably fall under that 1%.
I tear the signature tape off my card and use erasable ink to black out the signature spot. This makes the card un-usable until I show ID. I have no problem with showing ID to protect myself. But the perp will.
