“...Trump’s position is under no circumstances cut any government spending...”
“...The former president, who in November launched a 2024 White House campaign, called for cuts to a slew of other areas, including funding for “corrupt foreign countries,” “climate extremism,” “left-wing gender programs from our military” and “waste, fraud and abuse everywhere we can find it.”
OK...Which is it????????????
“Entitlements
Defense
Interest Expense
The big 3 of the US Fed.gov budget”
A huge hunk of the “entitlements” go to the toads of Washington.
Rather SS how about the government simply sets up an account for every LEGAL child at birth. $100,000. It cannot be touched, or transferred. It is linked to the S&P 100 and accrues interest and dividends for 65 years. The historical average for the S&P 100 is an 11% growth. Assume 9% and that 100k has turned into $27,084,596.26. The retiree could then live off the interest of draw down the principle. That should be enough money to fund anyone’s retirement, including medical bills.
BUT, the account is non transferable and non inheritable. Once the account holder dies, all funds revert to the government.
This gives people an incentive to vote in such a way that the government and country remain solvent and pursues non-inflationary policies.
This would eliminate SS and Medicare completely and everybody would be better off. We’d just have to subsidize the current system for probably 60-65 years, but each year that cost would grow less.
Back in the 1920s the Weimar Republic kinda, sorta inflated their way out of financial trouble. It worked. But then came great violence, and a fascist regime.
I dunno. Maybe we’ll be following that same path.
“I was forced to pay into SS. If the government had protected it and invested properly instead of spending the money, all SS recipients would at least be comfortable.“
This.
The same path?
Um... Can we not? There are plenty of other things we could do other than becoming the 4th Reich.
It will end when our system collapses from this insane level of phony money. Probably about the time I need it. LOL.
No how about eliminate half of the government agencies which are not needed and nobody would even know they were gone. Or eliminate welfare to illegal aliens. But nooooo, the Republicans never think of those options. Why do you think that is?
“ Planning on a pyramid scheme”
I know of know “pyramid scheme” that has lasted 90 years. Can you name one? If Social Security is a “pyramid scheme,” what does that make Marine, Navy, Army and Air Force salaries and pensions? Just like Social Security, those government programs require for the tax money to keep coming in or they’d collapse and the paychecks would bounce. In that sense, the whole government is a pyramid scheme, including any government bonds in your IRA or other retirement account
Cut the monies the government spends on illegal aliens and foreign aid instead of cutting monies to AMERICANS....PERIOD
Trump’s right - better to cut have the bureaucrats in DC... and most of ‘intelligence’... and and and...
Agree. We have a majority of elderly who rely on social security and medicare to help them. I say cut all these handouts for punks to not work. No more freebees unless totally disabled.
they should have saved or planned better
“ No politician is proposing any cuts to anything”
Yes, many Republicans are calling for raising the age when you’re eligible for Social Security, and cutting payments to high earners. A GOP House Study Committee report made precisely these recommendations last June. Lindsey Graham, Romney, McConnell and others have called for cuts.
If these programs only paid out to those who paid in then they would be completely solvent.
Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.
You do know that money you paid into the SS system while working went out to pay the benefits of those retired while you were working. You were left with political “IOUs” that the next working generation would honor (maybe?).
You do not have any asset ownership in the money you paid into the system. There have been several USSC decisions stating that. If you did have ownership rights, you could leave it to your heirs.
"Trump: ‘Under no circumstances’ should Republicans cut Social Security or Medicare"
The thieving, post-17th Amendment ratification feds need to surrender 10th Amendment-based Social Security and Medicare back to the states.
”State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress [emphases added].” —Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
”Simply this, that the care of the property, the liberty, and the life of the citizen, under the solemn sanction of an oath imposed by your Constitution, is in the States and not in the federal government [emphases added]. I have sought to effect no change in that respect in the Constitution of the country.” —John Bingham, Congressional. Globe. 1866, page 1292 (see top half of third column)
"From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]." —United States v. Butler, 1936.
MAGA state lawmakers desparately need to put a permanent stop to unconstitutinal federal taxes by effectively "seceding" ALL the states from the unconstitutinoally big federal government by repealing the 16th (direct taxes) and 17th (popular voting for fedreal senators) Amendments.
"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." —Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
“If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).
Pelosi: "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." (non-FR; 6 sec.)
“Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors, shall all become wolves [emphasis added]. It seems to be the law of our general nature.” - Thomas Jefferson (Letter to Edward Carrington January 16, 1787)
