Boston — The U.S. wireless carrier T-Mobile said Thursday that an unidentified malicious intruder breached its network in late November and stole data on 37 million customers, including addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth.
T-Mobile said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that the breach was discovered Jan. 5. It said the data exposed to theft - based on its investigation to date - didn't include passwords or PINs, bank account or credit card information, Social Security numbers or other government IDs.
"Our investigation is still ongoing, but the malicious activity appears to be fully contained at this time," T-Mobile said, adding that the data was first accessed on or around Nov. 25.

Hacked by the FBI to teach T-mobile a lesson about cooperation.
You see, T- Mobile does not turn data over to the FBI without a warrant, unlike ATT & Verizon.
Great
Or maybe they just sold the information.
To phone scammers
T-Mobile and other wireless services should not be permitted to obtain and store social security numbers.
This stuff keeps happening because there is no real consequences in the law when They poorly handle the data of their customers. Mostly what happens is the government wants money from them to hell with the people who is data was stolen as long as you pay off the government
Or in truth could’ve have been just a government self that hacked them. Our government is extraordinary corrupt And Follow the law of might makes right
1. I popped into a convenience store to buy whatever and my debit was not approved. Payed cash. Ticked off. Got in my car and was looking up bank telephone number on my cell when I received a call from the bank. Mr.Hootowl, this is the fraud unit, did you just attempt a large debit withdrawal in Boston? Nope, I didn't, I'm home in Atlanta. Debit canceled and replacement was in hand a couple of days later.
2. A month later, I received a call from the bank. Mr. Hootowl, this is the fraud unit. Are you in Sicily? Nope I'm in Atlanta. Replacement debit card in hand not canceled because this was on the the hacked debit already canceled.
3. A few months ago, I saw two transactions on my debit card I did not recognize. The first was $1 and the second a day later for something larger. Contacted the bank immediately. Debit card canceled and replacement in hand a few days later. I was out $0. Pretty sure my card was scammed via a card reader at a gas pump or some such.
This card scamming really ticks me off.
Well dayum... I was seriously thinking of dumping Verizon and signing bon with them... Maybe I’ll wait..
The worse provide in cell business is T-Mobile. If you are rural forget it...T-Mobile is an URBAN carrier.

DON’T DO IT! I already did the exact same thing and have NEVER had worse service than T_Mobile.
“T-Mobile and other wireless services should not be permitted to obtain and store social security numbers.”
I have home internet with them. The application process was so intrusive I almost terminated it. I don’t recall giving that much information other than buying cars and houses. I did it, though, because they were my only good internet option.
Completely understand. When they all require this info, we are hog-tied, without options. What really infuriates me is that they are storing the SSN in their system. They have no valid reason to store SSN after using it for a credit check. This practice should be illegal.
I’d have to agree. I have them, and I’m planning to switch back to Verizon when I get a good opportunity. Having two bars in an area with supposedly excellent coverage is just wrong.
T-Mobile seems more concerned with pimping their company than putting in decent infrastructure.
I get 2-3 bars of 5G UC signal and can’t get aq connection while in my yard. Also, I travel in a rural area weekly and I get no service or SOS almost the entire way. T-Mobie is an URBAN provider but rural areas are better to stick to Verizon or ATT.
Don’t worry, your data is safe in the cloud.
AND-—The DEMS want us to discontinue using CASH.
My wife and i just got our Equifax hack class action lawsuit settlement checks. $5.21 each. Meanwhile the attorneys probably raked in $5,000,000 (or maybe $50,000,000?).
It’s hard to keep track but i think Equifax was the company that had a female music major as their Chief Information Security Officer.
I’m in a suburban area (Pensacola), and I still occasionally get dropped calls.
has happened to me a few times, last time was in 2015, called the bank got a new debit card in about 1 week.
