UIC students say they hope faculty strike ‘doesn’t go on too long’

Students at the University of Illinois Chicago who just started their winter semester are facing a third day of canceled classes Thursday as many instructors continue to strike.

Talks between members of the faculty union and administrators failed to yield a contract agreement during bargaining Wednesday. The two sides have been at the table for nine months. The union said no additional bargaining sessions have been scheduled.

UIC’s 900-member faculty union is pushing for higher minimum salaries and more investment in student mental health services. Administrators have said they are limited by tuition revenue and state funding.

The work stoppage has students like Makayla Hamilton scrambling to learn course material on their own. The junior is studying math and computer science and said she’s been asking classmates and teaching assistants for help. She’s also tried YouTube and Khan Academy videos.

Fire them.

I agree, but something about tenure I suppose.

State universities in Democrat controlled states have reached their end point and are useless as academic and research institutions. The student accomplish and receive almost nothing from their time in these hopelessly woke places.

Refunds? Who needs a refund when we just loan them all the money and forgive the loans. Or defer payback indefinitely. Quite a system huh?

Administrators have said they are limited by tuition revenue and state funding.

They're really limited by pensions and bloated administrative payrolls.

A few years ago, just over half of the UI system's state budget was earmarked for pensions. So most of the "higher ed" costs in Illinois pay former employees, not current operations.

UIC is a garbage university. Fire them all. Free information is available on the internet for almost everything. But employers still want the diploma although testing job applicants would solve that.

They could quickly free up cash by eliminating all the waste spent on their Office for Access and Equity.

If this university closed permanently, it would be very helpful to Illinois AND to the USA.

Most public universities in America should be closed. They have no productive value and their faculty members should be delivering pizza’s which is where they really are qualified to work.

How have these propaganda mills helped the nation? Our fundamental problems are much worse and much more widespread because of their existence and they are costing WAAAAY too much money to operate.

Further, they are operating in violation of the U.S. Constitution by prohibiting free speech, refusing visits by dissenting speakers and by giving preferences and admissions based on skin color.

Young people should be learning skills having practical value. Parents should NOT spend their life savings to pay communists in universities to indoctrinate their young adult children with lies and utter nonsense not grounded in reality.

So said faculty members can intentionally contaminate/poison your pizza if they deem you, the customer, unwoke.
