I had lunch with James Doohan when I was 12. Nice guy. Had his finger blown off in the war.
Great score! What a neat story. Doohan was a military hero...good to know. But..OUCH on his finger getting shot off!

At the moment....yes.
They used to shoot around the missing finger but there are a couple of scenes where you can spot it if you are quick. One I remember is where he is carrying an armload of tribbles.

This plane belonged to the 355th Fighter Squadron of the 354th Fighter Group (The “Pioneer Mustang Group” of the 9th Air Force). The fuel tank behind the pilot was removed and a temporary seat installed for the passenger - Gen Eisenhower. My father’s first cousin, Lt. Col. Lowell K. Brueland, was an Ace with the 355th FS with 12.5 confirmed kills in WWII plus 2 more in Korea.

“... this flight was to have a look over the Normandy Beachhead. The Ardennes attack in Dec (Battle Of The Bulge) came as an absolute surprise to Allied command, including Eisenhower.
“My great-uncle talked about this event. I think he told me they named this plane “The Stars Look Down” My Great-Uncle was a fighter pilot with the 354th Fighter group, 356th Squadron (Red Ass). Mailon Gillis Ret. Col. (1920-2005) Plane ID- AJ N won the Distinguished Flying Cross and Silver Star.”
