What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

It may not be the most pressing question that gender-nonconforming people face on the job, but with approximately 1.2 million LGBTQ+ Americans identifying as nonbinary, employers and employees alike are exploring what professional attire can look like.

“I think people treat me with more dignity when I dress more masculinely, but people are way nicer to me when I dress more femininely,” said El Layla Johnson, 33, a former restaurant server who is now a therapist.

For Johnson, getting dressed for work has been a struggle since adolescence.

“I just feel like there’s a manual or rule book that people receive and that my copy got lost in the mail,” Johnson said.

Johnson recalled regularly crying while getting dressed for work at an upscale restaurant in Seattle. It wasn’t just that they found the restaurant’s dress code to be ugly. Johnson had a hard time finding clothes that fit at all.

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

We’re still in our warm spell. We had a little near freezing precipitation last night that has the weather people warning us about black ice this morning (that’s racist, right?) but we’ll be in the 40s today. To think last Friday pipes were bursting due to the double-digit negative temps.

Slipped down to 5 today.

Precious little faces peeking out!

Good morning. Did you have a good night, and not have to play nurse to anyone?

I don’t know what time FS will be showing up today, but I could have used another hour’s sleep. Hopefully, the shower is warm enough for long enough that I wake up a little bit more.

We’re due for some wicked weather today, and we’re talkin’ ALL day. Unngh. Rain this mornging, severe thunderstorms this afternoon.

Good job on the Wordle!

Hooray for the warmer temps!

I usually start on the Wordle as soon as I’ve responded to the morning dose of cat, but this morning, everyone is already here, and I’m the Late Bird.

What should they wear to work?

Same thing EVERYONE should wear to work: Clothing that does not cause distractive attentions and disruption of the workplace.

Happy Boy Scouts Day, Wordle players!

The water was only lukewarm today. *sigh* At least the bathroom was warm. Ish.

No telling when FS will show up, but probably not until noon or later. I wish it would be earlier. At least that way, I could keep somewhat to my schedule.

The rain is pouring down. The skies are bleak. As usual. It’s a good day to sit by a fire and read a book. Or just sit and watch a good movie!

I just looked out the door, and there were about half a dozen juvenile cardinals and maybe some juvenile females flocking to the pear tree to await their turn at Patsy’s feeder. Mostly, I see crows, hawks and starlings in the skies. And lots of little wrens and chickadees in the yard. I know there are mockingbirds, but they aren’t as bold here as they are in Vegas.

We have pigeons and “other birds.” I’ve never really been a birder. But the “other birds” aren’t showing up yet.

I can recognize a robin, but I don’t see many here. And I learned about purple martins when I tried to attract some to help out with mosquitos. It worked while I lived there.

Our sunshine is in liquid form.

I need to take the trash out, but I keep waiting for the rain liquid sunshine to let up a bit.

After a year of living in this place without the mandatory fire extinguisher, I bought one. I will take it off my next month's rent. I don't know how they got by during the HUD inspections without them, but they did.

I don’t think I’ve seen pigeons here. Vegas has a REAL problem with them, but to me, they’re in the same class as seagulls — Flying Rats.

I grew up in the country, so just naturally learned about wildlife. Birds are an essential part of that. So yeah, I like to watch them.

For heaven’s sake.

James and his hair turned up and applied for a job. I’ll make him apply for another after lunch.
