What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?
It may not be the most pressing question that gender-nonconforming people face on the job, but with approximately 1.2 million LGBTQ+ Americans identifying as nonbinary, employers and employees alike are exploring what professional attire can look like.
“I think people treat me with more dignity when I dress more masculinely, but people are way nicer to me when I dress more femininely,” said El Layla Johnson, 33, a former restaurant server who is now a therapist.
For Johnson, getting dressed for work has been a struggle since adolescence.
“I just feel like there’s a manual or rule book that people receive and that my copy got lost in the mail,” Johnson said.
Johnson recalled regularly crying while getting dressed for work at an upscale restaurant in Seattle. It wasn’t just that they found the restaurant’s dress code to be ugly. Johnson had a hard time finding clothes that fit at all.

Six inches of snow? Our snowcast went out the window.
Just more gloom and doom, instead.
Good job on your Triplet!
Anoreth joined the Coast Guard at 18. Several others had to be forced out, and then Tom came back.
Oh, wonderful!! Did Tom actually make it out the door? Hopefully, he’ll enjoy his first paycheck to the point that he’ll want to move out asap.
Congratulations!
Yes, he made it out the door. Not as early as I would like, but I manage my anxiety by leaving extremely early for everything.
That wasn’t a very funny April Fool’s joke, was it?
I hope he enjoys the work he’ll be doing and will want to move out as soon as he can find roommates.
Yes, all the holidays, even the ones we don’t celebrate should now be celebrated with gusto!
I slept over three hours. I set the timer, and when it went off, I just held the phone in my hand, turned onto my back, covered myself with my frog throw, and slept another 40 minutes.
I still want to go back in and lie down, but the bed has no sheets!
Both my my kids didn’t wait for their 18th birthdays. I didn’t blame them. They both enlisted in the military (FS in the army, FD in the navy) so now, when there is an Army vs. Navy game, I have to root for both sides!
But the situation at home was so bad that I didn’t blame either one of them. There were three years between their exits, but nothing changed at home.
I still miss them terribly.
Yes, I understand that completely. PW waits for the last minute to leave, and it drives me up a wall.
So I just cadge a ride with someone else, because it stresses me to walk into church “just in the nick of time.” The opening prayer is too late to be looking for a seat.
You never know what will cause a trip to take longer than the quickest time it could take. I often say to the young men, “Your time is literally worth nothing, so you might as well leave well before you think you need to.”
Out of the 4, only the youngest moved back in a couple of times before the permanent break...
There were events such as his landlord’s selling the rental house that led to his return. Didn’t make it easy on everyone, though.
Happy Monday, Wordle Epople!!

Exactly so. And if you leave early enough, you’ve automatically given yourself a cushion against traffic, or a storm or something you were never expecting.
Not only that, but it allows you to relax before the “main event,” whatever that is. Church, job interview, grocery trip, etc.
My mom used to say as long as you made it before the general confession you were good.
In addition, I’ve learned over time that traffic is like flying. No matter how much of a hurry you’re in, you have no control over when you’ll arrive. The one difference is you can become much later if your hurried driving leads to an accident. So leave plenty of time.
Exactly so!
Easy. Go look at your original birth certificate, and look where it says “sex” on it. If it says male, buy stuff us guys wear. If it says female, go buy girl clothes (dresses preferably, women are awesome when they dress in feminine attire). If your birth certificate has been rewritten to conform with leftist ideology, just look down below. If you have an appendage...by boy clothes, if you don’t, or there’s a scar where it used to be...buy girl clothes. Just two cents from an accused bigot, transphobe, fascist, etc...etc...
Exactly.
A box-checking Catholic would need to be at Mass in time to hear the Gospel reading.
In the morning, leaving a half hour earlier can get you to your destination an hour and a half earlier. You can always lean your seat back (unlike on a plane), set an alarm, and take a nap when you get there.
My answer would be “black pants and a white shirt,” unless your employer’s uniform calls for tan or navy blue pants.
