What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?
It may not be the most pressing question that gender-nonconforming people face on the job, but with approximately 1.2 million LGBTQ+ Americans identifying as nonbinary, employers and employees alike are exploring what professional attire can look like.
“I think people treat me with more dignity when I dress more masculinely, but people are way nicer to me when I dress more femininely,” said El Layla Johnson, 33, a former restaurant server who is now a therapist.
For Johnson, getting dressed for work has been a struggle since adolescence.
“I just feel like there’s a manual or rule book that people receive and that my copy got lost in the mail,” Johnson said.
Johnson recalled regularly crying while getting dressed for work at an upscale restaurant in Seattle. It wasn’t just that they found the restaurant’s dress code to be ugly. Johnson had a hard time finding clothes that fit at all.

When I went out to run yesterday evening it was 40 fs. Good gravy! But this afternoon into tomorrow afternoon we’re supposed to get 2-5” of snow. So that’s January for you.
Then I go from a 2 to a 5 in just 3 days. Talk about skiing downhill.

Good morning. Did you have a good night?
I was just settling in when PW sent me a text, asking if I was hungry because she has no one to cook for. *whine* I told her thanks but, I had just finished eating which was true, and that maybe she could bring some by tomorrow. But they won’t be crispy then. Did I have the heart to tell her I didn’t care for crispy?
FS is back on the road this morning, but I don’t know how long it will take to get to his destination. I’m going to look that up because now I’m curious!
It’s going to be clear and cold today, so I’ll bundle up and walk to Kroger. I can’t believe how much rain fell yesterday afternoon! And last night, it would seem. The weather will pucker up and be cloudy for the next week, of course. Maybe we’ll see a little sun each day but who can tell if we do or not?

FD says it’s 9° in her neck of the woods and when it finally stopped snowing, they had 10” of the white stuff on top of what they already had. At least you don’t have to run in that!

Golly. It’s a total of 926 to where FS is headed. He’ll be there about 8-10 days, then head home. He and his buddy made that round trip into PA in about three days, but that’s because they had reclining seats in the car. They towed a VW back with a tow-bar and some parts in the back of the car.
(The VW was about three hours’ driving time from the place he is going to do the work, so he did the estimate, picked up the VW and headed home.)
He’ll take a side trip from his work and go back into PA to get the rest of the VW parts.
Welp. Time to get busy.

Back from Kroger. I had to wait 30 minutes for the machine to do its dispensing trick before I could come home, and it just gave me time to catch my breath. Which tells me a lot. NOT in good shape, this one!
But it’s done for the next while, so I’ll try to walk again before the next seven days are over with. Once I sit down, I’m back to normal breathing in a hurry, but it’s often rough going while I’m walking, even if I slow down. Which is very hard!
That previously used word (like any unused word) is going to reveal the same:
- letter in correct place (green square)
- letter in incorrect place (yellow square)
- letter not used in word (black square)
So the game continues...

5 black squares is very important information. This morning I got one yellow square and it took until the 3rd guess before I know where. By the 4th guess I had one additional yellow letter. But all the black squares made the solution possible in the 5th.
I agree, the black squares are very useful!
