What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?

It may not be the most pressing question that gender-nonconforming people face on the job, but with approximately 1.2 million LGBTQ+ Americans identifying as nonbinary, employers and employees alike are exploring what professional attire can look like.

“I think people treat me with more dignity when I dress more masculinely, but people are way nicer to me when I dress more femininely,” said El Layla Johnson, 33, a former restaurant server who is now a therapist.

For Johnson, getting dressed for work has been a struggle since adolescence.

“I just feel like there’s a manual or rule book that people receive and that my copy got lost in the mail,” Johnson said.

Johnson recalled regularly crying while getting dressed for work at an upscale restaurant in Seattle. It wasn’t just that they found the restaurant’s dress code to be ugly. Johnson had a hard time finding clothes that fit at all.

...Now they just have to persuade their employee to do the simple thing asked: Ring the bell. Good luck with that....

They WILL ring the doorbell. It has now been estabilished that I have a disability that requires that the USPS comply. Now that they know, I'm protected by the ADA laws, so they can't, henceforth, ignore the sign. (I'm protected either way, but now, I have recourse.) I suppose I need to email the other delivery services and get them on board!

If the carriers had any sense, they would realize that this place is for seniors and the disabled, and therefore, they should have been taught in their sensitivity training that we are protected by ADA.

Of course, if they DON'T comply, I can notify the Postmaster General, and then, if still ignored, notify the ADA. (I got all this in training in Las Vegas when I went to work for public transportation about the same time the ADA laws were went into effect.)

Well, since most people in senior public housing don’t have anything to do, they gossip. I don’t have time for that. Even when I’m not busy, I’m busy, reading, writing, and chatting with my online FRiends.

Happy Ides of March. Oh. Wait. That’s not a thing, is it?

Thanks, Darks!

If you’re in contact with her by phone, you might suggest contacting her phone provider and getting her phone set up as a “hotspot.” I’ve done this, “just in case” and pay an additional monthly fee for it. She doesn’t have to keep it, but it would help her be in contact with people who might be able to help with her situation by giving her access to the internet.

Prayers up Metmom and all in her area who are suffering.

I’m not in contact with her, but the OP of the thread might be.

Thanks, ArGee. I didn’t know that. I’ll remember it, though.

My grandson has a dog who is a mix between a Standard Poodle and something else, so the next time I see him, I’ll give him a head’s up.

If the carriers could read or gave a freep, they would see the sign and ring the bell, because why not?

EXACTLY!!

And that’s exactly what I said to the local postmaster. Or, to put it in words I can use here, “DON’T mess with ‘FACE!”

Anyway, one down, three to go and tomorrow is another day. My brain feels fried, my allergies are winning, my knees and back are taking control and I want to be 10 years younger and 1600 miles farther west!

With that, I think I’m going to take my last pills of the day and try to sleep well so I can get up and crack on in the morning. Or at least get the pills sorted tomorrow! I don’t know if anything else will get done, but each thing done is a thing I don’t have to do later on.

I hope you have a pleasant evening and a good night!

I hope you have a good night, too. I suppose I have to stay up at least another hour.

I got back up before I got sleepy because this thing was updating. I had set it to shut down after the update, forgetting that it’s ALWAYS very, very sluggish in booting up the next time.

And indeed, it was. Anyway, now I’m really off to bed and oh-so-tempted to set it to “Sleep,” though IIRC, that’s not a good idea for all night.

Anyway, I hope you’ve been able to go to bed by now. Sleep well!

Nah, I’m still here. I’ve been writing up my journal with one eye and watching an old episode of Top Gear with the other, but I’m about done.

I’ve gotten lazy with journaling. I copy my letters and put them in the journal. Occasionally, if there is something too sensitive at the moment to tell anyone, I’ll put that in my journal and maybe later, will add it to a letter.

My weekly letters to Charlie usually have all my updates. He likes the little tidbits. There for a while, it was really hard to write to him, but with the depression lifting somewhat, it’s slightly easier.

I’m going to ask the repair guy to remove the predictive text “feature” if he can. It confuses me and I have to consciously have to think about how to spell a word. It slows me down no end.

I was dreaming about snakes. Not a good sign, in any of its aspects.

Good morning. I love snakes, so that would be good for me.

Sorry, but snakes in a dream are always bad, even if they’re “friendly.”

Treachery by someone close, being cheated by a trusted friend, period of struggle, being led astray by unprincipled friends, or having to defend your reputation. Doesn’t sound good to me! It’s the only dream item that has no “good” or reverse interpretation, that I know of.

What a pretty floof!

Good morning.

Did you sleep well?

I kept waking up even after I went back to bed, because of the dreams I was having. I forgot them as soon as I woke up but I didn’t like them.

Today is pill sorting day, and after yesterday, that may be all that gets done. I may play in the closet for a few minutes but not long.

Tomorrow and Saturday, I’ll do as little as possible so I can go to church and get my laptop back. I also have to be in attendance at PWs birthday party after church. Unngh.

They are definitely going to Memphis tomorrow, and will return Saturday.

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

With warm temperatures the snow spent a lot of time melting yesterday. We have grassy spots but the Princess seems to prefer snow, at least for now. That will change as we have less and less of it.

I HOPE we won’t be getting any more.

More melting today. And a little thawing of my frozen Wordle brain.

I’m glad to know you’re thawing out. I wish we would. Another freeze warning tonight.

Happy Friday Eve, Wordle Ganag!

I missed greeting you with Pi Day, and following that, the Ides of March, but nothing today, so that takes care of everything until tomorrow.

But here’s today’s effort on the puzzle.
