What should you wear to work if you’re nonbinary?
It may not be the most pressing question that gender-nonconforming people face on the job, but with approximately 1.2 million LGBTQ+ Americans identifying as nonbinary, employers and employees alike are exploring what professional attire can look like.
“I think people treat me with more dignity when I dress more masculinely, but people are way nicer to me when I dress more femininely,” said El Layla Johnson, 33, a former restaurant server who is now a therapist.
For Johnson, getting dressed for work has been a struggle since adolescence.
“I just feel like there’s a manual or rule book that people receive and that my copy got lost in the mail,” Johnson said.
Johnson recalled regularly crying while getting dressed for work at an upscale restaurant in Seattle. It wasn’t just that they found the restaurant’s dress code to be ugly. Johnson had a hard time finding clothes that fit at all.

These days most “comedy” is mean spirited crap.
And dirty.
There isn’t real comedy today. I mean, Red Skelton was funny; Bob Hope was funny. Robin Williams was funny. True humor is being able to laugh at ourselves, not make fun of others.
That’s why you don’t find much to laugh at in comedy today, I’m sure.
I meant to add you to the post #1183! Consider yourself added. ;o]
I watched “Beyond Paradise” and though I thought it should have had a different name, I was glad to see the character was still intact. I wouldn’t mind a few seasons of it!
The starlings are at it again, and I’m kinda glad there is a wall and windows between us. Their noise can be terribly distracting.
I’ve been trying to find something to do to occupy my time, but I think the bed is going to win at some time in the near future. Like, within the next two hours. I’m surprised I’ve lasted this long, but since tomorrow is laundry day, I don’t want to exhaust myself. Tomorrow will do that, for sure.
The heat from the shower helped with the wobblies for a bit, but now, the entire back of my neck hurts. The dizziness isn’t quite so bad, but I don’t want to make any sudden moves. It will feel good to go to bed, whenever that takes place!
I was able to watch both meetings today, but had trouble with them both. People with noisy screaming kids should not sit so close to the microphone on the remote camera. It was SO hard to hear the speakers. I’ve chastised myself about my attitude, but I’m sure I won’t feel better until I’ve asked for forgiveness for it.
DP had a mother walk near him on her way to the vestibule with a screaming child, and he said it went right into his headphones. Other than that, though, our sound was a lot better today.
I agree about the show title, and it looks like it has potential. I like the police station staff, and Martha’s mother was in “The Durrells in Corfu.”
Also, I'm tired and grumpy.
CFIDS makes me super-sensitive to sounds, odors and light, so if a sound is high-pitched, it can often make me nauseous. I tried to tough it out today, because I wanted to hear the lesson, but it was a job. Some women just speak so softly that the microphone can’t pick up their voices, and if a child is screaming, I’m not going to hear what the person has to say.
I haven’t watched “The Durrells in Corfu,” but I’ve seen that actress in a dozen different roles. She’s good.
Thankfully, that's not a permanent condition! ;o]
FS woke me to tell me they are watching "The Chosen." I tried to get them to watch it when I was still in Hurricane, but the response was a snooty, "We don't watch things like that." Things like what? An uplifting story about Jesus? Snobs.
Well, now its streaming on BYUtv and they've heard so much about it from other members of the church that I guess they finally decided to see what all the fuss was about. Good for them!
Welcome.
Vampire Squash aren’t to be trusted, even in defeat.
I wrote that back in my “Denizen of the Dimensional Doors threads” days.
Which, honestly, the Undead Thread is an outgrowth of.
Life still sucks, job still being annoying, finances still being the major issue.
You know, “the usual”.
Welcome!
Unlike Bok Choy who will never be defeated...
“You will NEVER defeat Bok Choy!”
Imagine a roving kung fu gang led by an asian cabbage.
That’s where that came from in my minds eye.
It was fun, short and funny, so good job!
Yeah I get it all. Just. Hang in there.
What a pretty floof today!
Good morning. I hope you had a good night.
I’ll go back to bed in a bit and try to get a nap that’s somewhat worthwhile. There’s still that FD out west who seems to think we’re still on the same time zone, so no bets on the continuity.
The laundry is ready to be hung up, but that will wait. The A/C was on in the laundry room! I hate when I walk in and it’s colder than it is outside. I’m glad the security lights have been fixed though.
Nothing else is planned for today unless it’s more sorting, now that I have one batch of stuff out of the way, and can start another pile for donation.
Happy Monday, Wordle Folks!
There is no excuse for my “Great” effort. Except maybe to boost my Fivers somewhat. They’re 20+ behind my Quads and Triplets.

One day, the vegetables will feed on our nutrients.
I’m sorry your family woke you up before, and I hope they can contain themselves until your nap is over.
And not bad, thanks. Jake came by a few times, but at least I didn’t dream about school.
It’s foggy here.
