If the Union families are to be paid for winning, the Confederacy families will have to be paid for losing ……

They didn't die for that reason. They died to secure the power of corrupt Washington DC to control the economic power of all the states, even against their will.

They died for tyranny, not for freedom.

Exactly!

My great, great grandpa and his brother died in the Civil War. They did not own a slave and most likely did not even know anyone that did.

Only 400,000 of them died to set slaves free. The other 300,000 died to keep them slaves. In the case of the 400,000 Union deaths. The government paid the widows and orphans pensions after the war ended. As of two years ago one man was still collecting a civil war pension from his father’s service in the Union army.
