Texas House to Continue Appointing Democrats to Key Committee Chairmanships
Texas Scorecard ^ | 1/11/2023 | Sydnie Henry

Despite intense grassroots pressure, the Texas House refused to allow a vote on whether Democrats will be allowed to chair important committees in the Republican-controlled chamber.

A Republican priority for 2023, banning Democrats from holding key committee chairmanships—which allows them to block conservative legislation—is supported by more than 81 percent of Republican voters.

In the 87th Legislative Session, 40 percent of committee chairs were Democrats, per Phelan’s decision.

Notably, [House Speaker] Phelan immediately moved Tuesday to hold the rules debate the following day, a full day before busloads of Republicans were scheduled to descend on the Capitol to voice their opposition on the issue.

Although Texas voters elect Republican majorities in the legislature, the Texas House is effectively controlled by a cabal of Democrats working with enough RINOs for a controlling majority. Together, they always elect a RINO Speaker who appoints Democrats to chair key committees that effectively block Republican priorities year after year.

Note that RINO Speaker Phelan moved to vote up one day to undermine the busloads of Republicans that were scheduled to descend on the Capitol to voice their opposition to the issue.

Everybody is so shortsighted. Someday when the Democrats are in charge of the Texans house, I’m sure they will remember this and make sure to let Republicans chair important committees…. Just kidding lol

It is time for Phelan to go by any means necessary.

Many Texas “republicans” are actually democrats who run as republicans in order to get elected. This has to stop, or Texas will be eventually screwed.

It’s articles like this that reinforce by belief that RINOs are worse than Democrats.

RINOs are Democrats that run as Republicans in order to get elected. They undermine conservatives and advance the leftist agenda.

RINOs need to be defeated and it doesn’t matter if it’s the primary or the general. Better to suffer with a Democrat for 2 or 6 years than a RINO for 30 years.

Phelen needs to be removed. When 87% of your constituency says do X, you damned well had better do X or you simply aren’t representing them. That’s his f’ing JOB as a state rep, to represent his district and, because he’s the Speaker, to represent ALL of those of his party.

Since he’s unwilling to do that, we the people need to get his carcass out of that position and find someone else who will represent us. None of the Republicans were elected to allow Dems veto power over legislation that we want. Guaranteed, the Dems will not allow anything like this if they ever gain control of the legislature. This spineless behavior by Republicans nationwide HAS to stop!

they should be completely kept off ANY committees!

After the kangaroo Jan 6th show trials, Democrats showed us how to do it!

They don’t call the Republican Party the Party of Stupid for nothing. This is a perfect example of that.

Open primaries are to blame for our Texas RINOs. Dems know they can’t win in Red areas so they don’t run a candidate or the Dems crossover and vote for the RINO. Open primaries make in almost impossible to take out an incumbent RINO.

The Texas house has been pretty much controlled by democrats for as long as I can remember.
It never has made any sense at all unless you figure that a sizable percentage of ‘republicans’ in the house only run with an “R” by their name because they know they couldn’t get elected otherwise.
