DENVER (AP) — Earth’s fever persisted last year, not quite spiking to a record high but still in the top five or six warmest on record, government agencies reported Thursday.
But expect record-shattering hot years soon, likely in the next couple years because of “relentless” climate change from the burning of coal, oil and gas, U.S. government scientists said.

Each year the world has more people — of course the numbers will increase ever so slightly.

After deleting that undesired data, the cherry-picked result looks pretty grim.

so they have supposed records but don’t know if it was the ‘5’th or 6’th warmest on record”?

Cause and effect, correlation versus causation. If I get up on the left side of the bed every day, the sun rises. If I don’t...well, I don’t want to take the chance.

Key words are "on record". If you read the article they also admit that "NOAA doesn’t include the polar regions because of
data concerns", as in they don't include data they don't like.
For about 20 years the earth has gradually cooled. Not enough to declare the centuries long Modern Warm Period over and that we've entered yet another centuries long cooling period. But enough of us to loudly yell BS to any talk about a recent year being a record high year for temps.

Give or take, you know, five or ten, maybe 10 or 20. This is science, you know. We have to be exact.
