I hope they got their luggage. Or get it timely. You’re wise in packing light.
I haven’t flown in a while, but next time - I’ll probably go your route and use a carry on too.
Just a backpack and a carry on are enough for me because I’m seldom gone more than a week these days.
All I can say is, it works for me! If you try it and it works for you, I’d be interested in knowing how it went!
