That was way way back in the Obama days.

People have forgotten (or maybe never knew) that attack on natural gas for home use and many industrial uses first was employed during the days of the Carter Administration. At the time there were a number of lawn gaslights powered by natural gas in people’s front yards, which were simply lit and remained burning day and night, shedding a soft ambience to many neighborhoods. But Jimmy said they had to be turned off, for some arcane reason (nothing to do with global warming at the time), and until the lampposts were rewired for incandescent bulbs (remember them?) no light could be showing in front yards. The Playboy Club in downtown Chicago had a powerful gas-fired spotlight that served as a guide for approaching aircraft coming in at night to both O’Hare and Midway airports, and could be readily identified at least fifty miles out. That too was shut down, and no electric replacement for it was ever set in its place. When the ban on natural gas for lighting purposes was lifted, the Playboy Club found itself surrounded by buildings that dwarfed it, and no kind of searchlight would have been effective.
The war on natural gas as a fuel has been long going on, and there seems to be a faction that believes too much access to energy sources is somehow “harmful” and is to be forbidden under any context.
“I remember the Dims encouraging and even forcing some people to switch to “clean burning natural gas”.”
Before natural gas there was coal gas which is nastier than natural gas. Look up Coal Gas in wikipedia.
