A middle school teacher in New Jersey is facing multiple drug charges after allegedly overdosing on fentanyl in a classroom in November, the Westfield Police Department said.
School Resource Officer Fortunato Riga responded to the second-floor classroom, where a nurse was treating the teacher in front of students, and gave him Narcan, a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose.

Was the teacher poisoned? Did the teacher accidentally come in contact with the drug?
What ever the circumstance, why would any rational parent send a child into a public school?....Oh! I know! Their child’s school is different.
OK...I read the article.
Were the drugs found in a locked closet that only the teacher had access? Does it make sense that the drugs were found in a closet that the students could access?
Is it possible that the teacher was framed and poisoned by one of the students?
Previous knowledge?
I have been for 21 years...
It requires an enormous sense of humor....and humility!
This means he probably was on Fentanyl in class on days prior to this and everyone thought it was normal.
Actually, the school I taught at is K-8. About 20 years ago they built a separate building for 6-8, but the kids all still mingle. The ‘middle schoolers’ still play on the swings and run around on the playground during recess. I think it’s so much better for them than just walking around acting cool during their breaks.
I left the classroom 22 years ago and have begged parents to get their kids out of public school ever since, not one parent, to my knowledge, has listened. They all agree the public education is a mess but the school their kids go to is fine. Same attitude keeps incumbent congressmen in office, congress is a mess but my Congressman is pretty good guy.
Good news is the lockdowns gave some parents a peek into their childrens classroom and at least motivated them to complain.
57 years old and on drugs..

It is so sad the excuses used by parents. They spend more time and maintenance on their car than on their children. They spend more time worrying on pleasing their boss than they do considering what their children are learning at school. “We just can’t afford to home-school. We are going to have to buy a new car next year, and we need to build an addition or buy a larger home soon. Hubby is not happy with his small in-house office he uses when working on the week-end”, they say. They can tell you the latest gossip from co-workers, but not what their 14 year-old daughter is learning at school.
With children, you do not get to any “do-overs” or resets. The final product you produce is what you get. We made some mistakes with our children, but they are both hard working, have no vices, and my grandchildren are home-schooled.
One good thing we did was buy a large enough piece of land so that there is room for several homes to be built on it which allows our youngest son, d-i-l, and grandchildren to be nearby. This allows them to live without worrying about a rent payment, with baby-sitters always available and on site. This means one parent can stay at home in order to home-school the children. The destruction of the multi-generational family unit, with families now scattered across the nation or world, has done much harm to children. Experience, wisdom, and knowledge from grandparents is not handed down and children are suffering from it.
so many teachers are screwed up.. Westfield is a big-money town..
