UPDATE posted around 12:36 am EST:
Kevin McCarthy won the House speakership during the 15th round of voting this week which began late Friday night and spilled over into Saturday after the clock struck midnight. He earned 216 votes.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 14 rounds, each voted present in the 15th round, which lowered the threshold McCarthy needed to secure victory — Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had switched to present in the 14th vote, voted present again for the 15th round.
Original story below:
For the 14th time this week, Kevin McCarthy has come up short in his quest to clinch the House speakership.
He came closer than he had all week by earning 216 votes — he would have locked up a win if he had been able to reach 217.
Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 13 rounds, voted present during the 14th vote.
Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had all voted against McCarthy on the first 13 rounds, voted against him again in the 14th round.
A group of more than a dozen Republicans voted against McCarthy in 11 votes this week, including three votes on Tuesday, three on Wednesday, and five on Thursday. Nineteen Republicans opposed McCarthy in the first two votes, but that number increased to 20 when Byron Donalds of Florida, who had voted for McCarthy twice, switched and voted against McCarthy on the third vote.

You don’t gotta jump up and down or not jump up and down.
Just accept reality and move on.

That is actually the big problem with government. Being employed in it.
You feel like you need to “do something”.
So you do stuff, even if it is against the written law and Constitution.
Really the gov should just be presiding and ensuring that things are stable. It really should be sitting around doing nothing. Available if serious need comes up.
So these reps really should have a real job to keep them busy, and can do gov work if called upon.
Exactly.
No but the Left sure has its reps here trying to create a certain amount of havoc.
Totally agree on that. AND repeal the 16th. Lots of evil came from that immediate progressive era. That one year of 1913 destroyed a lot.
Trump is still in the learning curve on the difference between business and government.
In business, loyalty is everything and Trump is a very loyal guy.
In government the CONSTITUTION and the PEOPLE, government come first and those who betray the People’s trust should be booted out regardless of loyalty.
Good government is much more brutal than good business.
It's been seven years. That's a learning curve?
I understand what you mean about the 17th, but do you know what repealing it would mean? No ore conservatives or even moderates in the Senate. State legislatures would never pick anybody to the right of Romney, and maybe not even that far. But Democrat legislatures would be picking people farther to the left. Repealing the 17th would mean the Senate would lurch at least 75% to the left. Can we afford that?
Why?
Must be good to know you have such lukewarm support.
He doesn’t care though. He got his box checked. It’s his turn. No matter how weak and rhino he may be.
Yup.
You and I and Trump and everybody else tends to use the things that made us successful. It may take quite awhile to relearn some of those things, especially if you've been successful doing the previous things for 50 years.
Some of those idiots in D.C have been there 50 years and they still don't know sh#t.
Indeed. That idea apscares me.
We are full of communists who hate America (traitors), and the Constitution it created and is under.
They would not give us wise and freedom-loving fair people to create something new.
No great God-given Founders in this era.
True, most likely.
But, it was the way it was supposed to be. Perhaps it would start righting itself.
Decent summary of what was gained here.

He didn’t get to 218, but 6 members voted “present,” so he got a majority of the members voting for someone by name, 216-212.
IF he becomes vengeful there is a chance that they can remove him. slight one, but a chance.

You are good to give the benefit of the doubt by saying “IF he becomes vengeful.”
For me the cynicism and dark outlook about the GOP makes me feel like that is a faint hope. You’re better than I.
Well then, elect 218+ Congressmen and 67 Senators if you can, and then you can rule the land
If you can't - draw the obvious conclusions.
When may we SEE that rules package, not just rumor of it?
Will it be adhered to, or the rules “Suspended” every time we really need them?
Lord help us if this site becomes a one voice site of any kind. For me though, who supported Trump monetarily and with my vote at every opportunity through the 2020 Election, I'm more "over-Trump" and ready for the next act. I'm not very hopeful though.
(MTG's phone last night, pointing to it with her non-photographed hand. Last 4 days was choreographed - DJT *owns* the house now, dragging mcC thru the mud of 15 votes)
Wouldn't surprise me at all how true this may be. However, I don't view it as a positive development. What happened with the speakership is just as marginal and just as messy as the mid-terms. I don't know how any of it can be characterized as anything but fractious.
