Ovidio Guzmán-López: Deadly riots grip Mexican state after drug arrest
bbc ^ | 01/05/2023

Ovidio Guzmán-López - himself alleged to be a leader of his father's former cartel - was captured in Culiacán after a six-month surveillance operation.

Furious gang members set up road blocks, set fire to vehicles and attacked a local airport.

A passenger plane was hit by gunfire while preparing to take off.

More than a hundred flights were cancelled at three Sinaloa airports.

Sinaloa's state governor earlier said 18 people had been admitted to hospital.

Mr Guzmán-López is accused of leading a faction of his father's notorious Sinaloa cartel, Defence Minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval said. It is one of the largest drug-trafficking organisations in the world.

Hi father, Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, is serving a life sentence in the US after being found guilty in 2019 of drug trafficking and money laundering.

The fuselage of a plane scheduled to fly from Culiacán to Mexico City was hit by gunfire on Thursday morning as it was preparing for take-off, Mexican airline Aeromexico said.

No customers or employees had been harmed, it said. A video posted on social media appears to show passengers crouching and cowering in their seats.

Mexico is a narco-terrorism state. Corrupt at all levels of government.

.........that we are in an undeclared war with, along with China.

They supply the ingredients of mass murder and control the foot troops coming across our borders.

But we still pretend that Mexico is some sort of ally and continue to do commerce with them, even allowing their trucks into the US.

We should do to the cartels what we did to the Nazi organizations (SS, SD, Gestapo, etc.) after WWII, declare them outlaw organizations whose members are subject to automatic arrest.

The US has done so well in Viet Nam, Iraq, Syria and last but not least Afghanistan such an operation would a snap.

These entities are very rich due to the insatiable appetite that Americans have for their products. Perhaps starting at home with an attempt to provide employment to millions in places that have had their economies strip mined and also funding inexpensive but high quality medical treatment for addicts might be more effective than the current failed militarized/police oriented approach.

In what way would have a declaration of war made any difference?

1. It’s Constitutional.

2. We should mean it this time. Be all in to get ‘er done.

You truly do live in 1980, at the latest. Here is a bulletin, both Ronald Reagan and William F Buckley are dead as is the country they resided in.

The last time Congress declared war was, I believe, in April, 1942 against Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary.

Good luck with that, this is in Mexico. You truly delude yourself as to the capacity of the US government to carry out any third world military operation. Invading Mexico is not going to happen and if it did would lead either to the kind of destruction that followed the invasion of Iraq with a finale like the recent departure from Afghanistan. The reason these people make a great of money is that many millions of Americans desire their products. Starting with the American customer base might be smarter. Many are not ever going to stop using drugs . That is just a fact of what Americans are like today. The question is should their habit be kept illegal or decriminalize it and let those who use these products cope with the consequences as we do with alcohol and tobacco.

First off these people have very good connections with local law enforcement and will be tipped off, secondly arresting some low level criminals is just an exercise in the police building a case for more drug enforcement money. There is no effective answer to the this or any of the previous ‘drug crisis’. The basis for the ‘crisis’is the desire of many Americans for the product. The semi-militarized law enforcement approach beloved by bureaucrats and police is just an endless merry go around. Many user will never change for those who do have motivation real money invested low cost quality medical rehabilitization is a better solution but lacking the drama and empire building of the current approach.
