McCarthy slated to fail on ninth ballot as allies huddle with opposition

The speaker of the House election appears headed for a tenth vote as Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and his allies continue to huddle with the 20 holdouts in his party throughout Thursday's votes.

The same group of GOP lawmakers that have been voting against McCarthy since Tuesday are blocking his candidacy on the ninth ballot. The only changes to yesterday's votes compared to the most recent round come from McCarthy foes Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Josh Brecheen (R-OK), and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who voted for Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK).

Gaetz (R-FL) had voted for former President Donald Trump on the prior two rounds. Hern continues to vote for McCarthy.

The adults in the room are the 19/20. They've supported Jordan, Donalds, Biggs, Hearns, and even Trump. They alone are willing to compromise. The democrats and the rest of the republicans are totally "my way or the highway" with their nominations. I proudly stand with the 19. This is SPARTA !!!

I hope he keeps failing and the numbers against him keep increasing.

He is just another Globalist / Establishment GOP “Trojan Horse” in the GOP.

Here’s the problem, anything Kevin agrees to can easily be undone by the entrenched majority after he is speaker. McCarthy brought this on himself when shot down every rule change the conservatives proposed in the first couple of weeks. It was arrogant and stupid.

MCCarthy should have made these deals before. He is not a leader.

Correct. He didn't make any deals previously, because he expected to "Dictate" and everyone kowtow, but The Twenty aren't having any of that.

The thing that’s confusing this is that Trump is supporting McCarthy.

Trump's inner circle has always included horrible advisors. If they were any good we would not have had Pence, Barr, Sessions, Mucci, Cohen, Wray, and many more. He absolutely needs better advice. His first term would have gone into a second term if he had better advisors!

Either meet the concessions of the conservatives or step aside McCarthy.

While it’s easy to criticize Trump for his choices, I think it’s fair to consider what choices he had. Either because he was limited to who Mitch would let him have, or there simply weren’t good people who wanted the job.

In the private sector, you can always entice people to work for you, who otherwise wouldn’t. Doesn’t work that way in government.

that is the one word I would use to describe government as a whole so I think it’s fitting.

From my POV and many others in my circles, neither the left nor the Uniparty has completely failed to understood is that it has never been about Donald Trump. I love the guy and was proud to support him and vote for him because of what he was doing and what he was standing for. That is the substance of of what these 20 Republican Representative heros are doing. These people are just like me, ready willing and able to provide that very large middle finger to the establishment classes - the enemy who rush for their tranquilizers and fainting couches whenever someone utters the word “no” to them and their schemes. Trump did it with relish and to great effect. God love him. Now we are seeing 20 more who have reached adulthood step forward to use their talents to block this seemingly irreversible American devolution.

As for DJT, his one area of serious failure is his inability to select the right people for many gov’t jobs. Some selections were brilliant, but most were not. He seems blind to the treasonus intent and actions of many of those he selected for leadership positions in his administration. He also failed to fire evryone who worked for Obama when he took office. Ironically, I believe he is a bit of a softy in this critical area. Perhaps he believes more people in positions of power share his American Greatness ideals. If so, he’s dead wrong about that. Kevin Mc Carthy had the unmitigated temerity to claim he had earned the speakership as though it was his personal possession. He’s a twisted and bad man. He can NEVER be trusted. He must go. Sorry, but anyone who cannot see that is asking for the status quo - that handbasket headed for hell. God save the 20 and God grant them the grace and courage to continue their crusade on our behalf.

So far, these are the only ones whoare willing to lose it all for truly righteous principles. That is how much they value these principles. That’s how you can tell they have principles. All the rest are desperate to stay in their positions of privilege, and have not valued their principles very highly. Why would we follow them or admire them in any way?

Come on McCarthy. Buy a clue! You went from 19 against you to 21. That shows you are losing support. Step aside so that a conservative can step forward and be the House leader.

Correction to first sentence:

From my POV and many others in my circles, both the left and the Uniparty have completely failed to understood that it has never been about Donald Trump.

Apologies...

Just think if McConnell let Garland’s nomination go through. McCarthy has a quid pro quo with Trump. That’s the only reason I can think of as to why Trump is supporting him.

“Then the 20 need to get to yes if that happens.”

I disagree... They need to hold out until someone else is elected. Anything other still gives the deep state what they want. The rules do not matter at all in the bigger picture.

Time to break the cycle of entitlement power.

After the first couple of failures, you’d think they would’ve stopped the voting and retired to a back chamber until they got something hammered out.

They were counting on the media to gin up enough hatred against the Freedom caucus so that the conservatives would fold. Instead, the Freedom caucus dug their heels in and convinced a couple others representatives to stand on their principles.

When the vote against you goes from 19 to 21, you are losing ground, not gaining.
