Public defenders paid for by tax dollars or did he actually hire his own defense lawyers?

Yeah, will or can a PD use paid help from outside sources?

A PD is usually appointed because the defendant ‘can’t afford a lawyer”.

Weird, isn’t it? Would a PD have the resources to hire such an expert contractor? I wouldn’t think so.
