ELDERON − A 79-year-old man police say was the target of a robbery early Tuesday morning shot and killed his attacker.
At 2:37 a.m. Tuesday, a resident of Elderon, which is about 30 miles southeast of Wausau, reported he was assaulted and stabbed as he got out of his vehicle in his garage, according to the Marathon County Sheriff's Office. Officials believe the suspected attacker followed the man home from a local establishment.
The 79-year-old man had a gun and fired one shot that hit the suspect, before the suspect wrestled the gun away from him. The suspect, who had been hit in the chest, died while leaving the home.
The 79-year-old man received injuries that were not considered life-threatening and is recovering at a local hospital, according to the sheriff's department.

Thanks to gun rights, a dirtbag is dead. Won’t you do your part to protect the lives of dirtbags? Support your local Democrat politician, who seeks to strip the right to self defense. Help save dirtbags! Thanks to moral relativism, they’re just as precious as you are.
Idiot robber brought a knife to a gunfight.
How can I follow that up?
Not my business, but it’s somewhat surprising to read about a 79 y/o driving home at 2.30 AM. Good for him, that he is still Road Ready at that age. His lifestyle is his affair.
Even better, he was armed, practiced and ready to act.
You won’t catch him in some Midnight Rendezvous with an unpaid Hammer-ist.
Don’t mess with old men. We’re too tired to fight, so we’ll just kill you and have done with it.
78 and still driving myself. No big thing.
Oh, maybe he was driving home after keeping the grandkids while their parents went out for the evening.
I’m 60+ and do not drive at night unless I have to. In the country, deer look like mailboxes and mailboxes turn into deer.
That’s a good motto, like something a Marine would say.
Those same ‘Deer’ must be coming into small towns too.
I have glaucoma and am 66 y/o. I try not to drive at night if I don’t really have to. I owe it to other drivers to be careful. I had my fun, night riding over great distances.
I don’t mind the deer that turn out to be mailboxes. But the mailboxes that turn out to be deer is what scares me. And they are everywhere!
>> In the country, deer look like mailboxes and mailboxes turn into deer.
In the country, deer and mailboxes are each fair game for pickups with grille guards. ;-)
Guess I’m lucky, my eyesight is still good despite having been type2 diabetic for over 20 years.
Deer are usually moving around dusk and dawn, not at 2:30 AM.
Since retiring to Ohio, I’ve killed three. Two more and I’m an ACE!
Maybe the Deer have passed the word about you.
One more will make it ‘Four Deer In Ohio!’
Well, the robber won’t do that again
Since I turned 73 I just tell people that “I’m to old to take a beating and to tired to run away, so I’ll just shoot you dead and take my chances with a jury”.
3 hots and a cot don’t sound to bad at my age, and I have to agree with the poster about the damned deer.
Why do they always jump right out in front of you at night?
I have never hunted. Wanted to, but it just never came about so far. I’m guessing, the Bucks probably jump out in front of an approaching driver because they think this sudden pounce will frighten the ‘invader’ into a quick retreat.
The driver is expected to slam the brakes, stop on an unseen dime, turn around and hightail it out of the Buck’s territory. The Buck is expecting to Stand His Ground, probably while snorting and stomping his front hooves in a testy warning. “...And STAY OUT!!”
How does that usually work out for them? One would think evolution would have weeded out all such Deer who followed that impulse.
Dang, lots of good news stories out there tonight.
I’m 72 - wife and I were on the boat this summer.
I said - honey I don’t remember crab pots off that point
Course when they got up and flew away I saw they were gulls.
Won’t be too many more years on the water
