Rule of thumb: about one percent of a populace dies off each year. One percent of China's 1.4 billion would be 14 million per year, or about 38 thousand per day, and we would think this normal. Therefore "experts" suggesting 9 thousand per day is "sweeping the country" is not adequate data collection, adequate analysis nor accurate by many measures. It is fear-making. And the headline assures this.

Well past the headline, one reads a named official saying, "Relative to the rest of the world, the infection peaks we are faced with across the country are not unusual."
And another, "...the relative percentage of deaths may still be low."
The point of this comment is to show the way "journalism" plays the three card monte. Until deaths per day in China is reported to be above 38 thousand per day, I for one will conclude that things are "not unusual" and "may still be low" as we also read in the Daily Mail.
Others commenting on this thread say they do not trust Communist China's data, and I agree. I also do not trust the pictorial evidence as selected by editors to show readers the fearful state of things, because we have seen Chinese videos in January 2020 of people supposedly dropping dead on the streets, which contributed to fear and lockdowns and economic privation. Fear washes over people, and they can threrby be stampeded.

IF you remember what happened to the optometrist who blew the whistle back in 2020, it’s highly unlikely none of these names would be released and no statements would be made without CCP prior authorization.
so this info is being released by the CCP now that the outbreak is too extensive to hide.
