I lived in NM for 14 years, short time in Las Cruces and many years in Silver City. Many of my ham friends worked at NMSU university, White Sands MR, Hollowman AFB, Kirkland AFB, Ft. Huachuca (AZ), Sandia Labs, Los Alamos.
We did some amazing projects in the Mid 1970’s to Mid 1980’s, long before the advent of cell phones, and the internet.
I knew some of the best engineers, technicians and physicists in the nation. It was a tight community.
I ran a Navy/Marine Corp MARS station out of my home for 19 years.
You will never convince me they faked anything.
Today? Would not bet on it.
My father-in-law was an EE and spent 40 years in the weapons industry (He was an intelligence officer in the 82nd Airborne, before.) Knew a number of his technical people. They were outstanding technically and great people too. (this was in Texas, not NM)
