Ukraine has previously recaptured Bilohorivka about 10 to 15 km away from Lysychanks and Sievierodonetsk. If they take Kreminna to the Northwest, it opens the way to take all the roads and towns to the north of Lysychanks and Sievierodonetsk. If those two cities are recaptured, Russia's control over the Luhansk Oblast and Northeast Ukraine is finished. Supporting Russian forces south in Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson will become extremely difficult without safe land corridors from Russian territory.
Instead, Russia throws men away in Bakhmut.

Conclusion: I don’t know if they withdrew on purpose and indeed created a “trap” for UKR troops, as they claim.
But fact is, their counter counter-offensive was brutal, quick and successful. I won’t share images of killed Ukrainians in the town.
But that’s not only my conclusion.
