“Why the late George H.W. Bush is the most underrated great US president”

He was a very, very, nice person. And, at this point, I’m out of good things to say about him.

Loyal to Reagan!!??
What?

In what way?

The gop foisted him onto Reagan after losing primary to him. He never said a nice word about Reagan

When did any Bush ever say anything about Reagan much less anything nice or remotely loyal.

Oy vey b

Ex-CIA cold war spooks aren’t good choices for someone entrusted to look out for our freedoms.

Sure, “no new taxes”. GHWB was a terrible POTUS, who brought about eight years of the Clintons.

Maybe, regarding loyalty, but possibly helping the other side, like Pence (not sure either way).

As far as Read My Lips, that was all Lee Atwater, and Atwater died in early 1991, and at that point, Bush no longer knew how to appear to be a conservative - so he got rolled by the Democrats. And interesting how Atwater died at just the right time for Bush to be left hanging out to dry.

He did bring the Cold War to a successful close and was a better president than the three who came after him.

“Read my lips” was stupid. Reagan had managed to fund the government (i.e. tax rises) without promising that he wouldn’t to it.

More to the point is that Bush ended Reagan’s budget freeze (i.e. limited rise), let spending lose, and then was surprised that the deficit was a problem.

He was president, and Dick Cheney was secdef during my time in the Corps. Good for Bush for his service in WWII, but afterward, I have no time for either of them.

I voted for Poppy twice, but, no, he’s not underrated. He was a disastrously bad choice for Reagan, and he and his son did a lot of damage to this country.

Once again the Republican voters got duped and hoodwinked. When it comes to critical choices and decisions it seems so hard for Republican’s to get it right.

The Bush that couldn’t remember where he was when jfk was assassinated? The one who was registered in a Dallas hotel on that day? The one who worked under CIA zapata operation? The one who sat on the sham jfk investigation? The one possibly photographed by book depository on that day? The one who became CIA director years later? The one who became liason to China? Yes - totally underrated.
