In HS in the 1970’s, they were teaching us of the very soon ice age as in Global Cooling. TV programming also fed us that trash and we knew it was trash.
Yes. I did not pay much attention in the 70’s as I was just a kid, but you are correct. The answer is always the same - we need more of your money and you need to let us control your activity for your own good.

I graduated from HS in ‘69 before all this “climate change” crap was dreamed up. All we had was assassinations, race riots, global nuclear war, Cold War, and Vietnam. Not much to worry about back then.
