100 years ago, Dan Daly and Smedley Butler each received a second Medal of Honor for action in Haiti. That place hasn't changed.

In fact, the two stupidest people I encountered in the Marine Corps were brothers from Haiti. How the hell they even got in, I have no idea. Desperate recruiter, I guess.

The Haitians won their independence from France back when Napoleon was too occupied with wars elsewhere in Europe. One of their first activities after tracking down and killing anybody who even looked mixed blood white was to invade their Dominican neighbors.

Dominican wanted nothing to do with these whack-jobs and have hated them ever since.

After Napoleon was defeated for the second time (Waterloo) and exiled to St. Helena, the world got together and decided what to do about, among other things, the Haitian problem. Because their behavior had been so wicked and genocidal, the United States went along with no trade sanctions unless Haiti paid repatriations. In exchange, Europe accepted the Monroe Doctrine. Haiti has blamed their poverty on those reparation payments ever since even though they ended over 150 years ago.
