So there is some logic as to why you should try hard to start at the top.

Well knock me over with a feather!

So you're saying that it's better to start as a Lieutenant Colonel (at least) instead of as a Buck Private?

Seriously: I understand what you're saying, and there is more than a grain of truth in it.

Regards,

On January 2, I’m starting my first real job since I initially started dialysis 14 years ago. I’ll be making $29k-$34.5k not including benefits and before taxes.

You can bet I’m happy just to be a part of the working economy again.

Yeah, having a “job” sucks. It might work for the 30 year plan, but there are fewer and fewer 30 year jobs/careers anymore.

You only need $250.00 a month for groceries and necessities I can’t believe you are able to get by with that small amount!! Your monthly gas and electric seem very low also!!

I easily spend $250 at the grocery store in one week for the extras my husband forgets (cleaners, shampoo, razors, cat litter, etc.).

I have two sons still at home. They can clean out the fridge in 3 days.

Small town factories, here in the south start people off at $9/hr. I’ve “topped out” at $15.61/hr. Can’t go any higher here. Got to find a better job.

One has to wonder just what has to happen before these kids have had enough and have a "come to Jesus" moment.

There are just so many Starbucks barista jobs around and their Woke parents will get tired of their kids mooching and living in the basement. Not to mention those parents who are paying off their kids' student loans for degrees in climate change, CRT, and gender studies.

Surely there is a point at which the manure will hit the fan.

Or not.

The communists may be waiting for that manure/fan moment to start the revolution. But even then, these Woke kids can't do anything but riot in the streets. They aren't physically fit enough to carry a rifle.

If you look at inflation since 1890, when a laborer could own a nice house and afford to have the wife stay home and have a servant, $74 an hour is cheap.

No common laborer had a nice home and wife home and servants in 1890s. Common laborers worked 60+ hour weeks. Their wives charred or took in laundry while the middle class ones sewed or made hats...

The help in the home came from the fact that without welfare there was a class of people who were in some way unable to pair up and make it on their own. Often family members but some times single men or women who had no place to go and would help out for food and shelter and perhaps a small wage.

Drunks/disabled who kept the wood chopped or the coal furnaces going lawns mowed in return for a cot in the basement is one example.

Exactly. Six figures ain’t what it used to be. Single income household is darn near impossible to survive.

Thanks Biden. Obama. Democrats. McConnell. Thanks politicians for f*ing us in the rear!

Completely depends on the role. Good for some but bad for others.

Real inflation has also approached 25% per year for the last couple of years.

You’ve a hefty rent (as well as car payment) for that take-home. Cheaper housing (and an old beater of a car) might give you more peace of mind.

I retired at age 52. Back in ‘98 I wouldn’t have gotten out of bed for $75k. Never work for the man, be the man. I had to bust my ass from the age of 16 to 52. I’m now 77 and have been retired for 25 years. I do what I want, when I want, and how I want. It didn’t happen by accident. You are your own best asset. You need to discover and then market that asset.

Can anyone get to a methodology for the poll?

For some reason a link to the Fed survey won’t download for me.

My great grandparents had a big farm house on the edge of town in the Midwest. The house was subdivided into 2 separate family units with a couple of separate units for single people. At one time, they had a maid and the town librarian living in them.

““Powell puts US pay hikes at heart of Fed’s 2023 inflation” fight”

Well, we know this isn’t consumer-driven inflation it’s monetary debasement inflation from unchecked government spending. Just like banana republics do.

Maybe Powell is blaming the consumers (which many ppl don’t believe is the cause) because as a gov appointee he can’t say it’s government spending. The end result is the same: increased interest rates increase government interest payment requirements on the gov debt. Which should supposedly slow down gov spending. But it rarely does in banana republics.
