Meanwhile, in South San Francisco (a separate city in San Mateo County to the south of SF) business is booming, with crowded stores, restaurants and traffic. Lots of workers working from home in SSF and spending their money there, rather than in SF. Malls, restaurants, businesses in South SF doing very well. Very little crime as compared to San Francisco. However, lots of street traffic.
873,965 people in 2020. It went down to 815,201 in 2021.

Sooner or later, SFO will be bankrupt like NYC in 1975. Long term, the City would be better off filing bankruptcy now and let the attorneys and courts sort through the damage while keeping REAL basic services functioning.
