2 years ago I interviewed for my current job and one of the first things that was brought up was they couldn’t find me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and would like access to my pages.
I told them it’s because I’m not on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. They were somewhat mystified.
Same for me previously.
“You have no social media?!?”
“No, I read and exercise.”
(looked confused)
Had a similar experience. Told them I was not retarded and got up and left.

Needed: A ban on such enquiries by employers, especially when the user accounts are not public. Nobody should lose his job for confidential discussion of political or moral views.
Some jobs require some sort of active digital presence on social media, or it is flagged.
Like it or not, social media is now a big part of the background check
I actually had someone refuse to sell me a specialty product because they couldn’t find me on social media. I replied the same way, “because I am not on that garbage.”
Wow the gall of them admitting that.
