I’m mostly Irish; can I demand reparations for the way in which early Irish immigrants were treated? How about Chinese, American Indians, and others who received terrible treatment? My disdain for bullies is matched only by my outrage at someone, who today, is free to prosper and live normally, but who is trying to profit from his distant relative’s pain.

Only for the short time it would take for them to blow through it.

One Freeper had a good thought on this: If Cali does pay out these reparations, every black in the country is going to move to California. So by the 2024 elections Republicans will win every state except California as a result. LOL
Oh, I have, as well. The group to which I refer, is the grifting type, the generational welfare type, who apparently think they are owed by the rest of us.
Afflicted with insomnia like me, he (Anderson) would walk at night through a crime-ridden area with his pit bull to get a hamburger for his dog at a 24 hour fast food place I frequented. After I had a meal and we sat and talked for a while, I would offer him a ride home. Oh no, he always demurred, where he lived was too dangerous at night for white people.
In your first supposition it is an individual spending his own money. I would have no objection.
In the rest it is government spending from the public treasury. Giving away public tax dollars for individual benefit is immoral.
With the exception of rewarding the submission of an outstanding proposal for a thorny problem I have no objection. This is an idea that probably is under utilized. Perhaps because it is difficult to manage. A committee would have to review hundreds or thousands of proposals and have to select the individuals best proposal without prejudice. But paying for merit is the heart of capitalism.
Where we disagreed was in my original comment as to not blaming someone for taking advantage of government largess.
People for the most part are like snakes or mosquitoes. You don't blame them for biting or stinging because that is just what they do.
To blame someone for taking something left out in the open (unguarded) is a waste of energy.
That said, it is a free country (for now). Your opinion is still as valid as mine.;-)
I used to have that view of people but then I learned man was created in the image of God.
To say that men are just animals is to say that man can not enter the Kingdom of God.
Men are responsible for their actions, moral and immoral.
Taking some thing offered that is undeserved may be a venial sin but is a sin none-the-less.
That men are creatures governed by reason is what sets us apart from the lower creatures. We can reason between right and wrong.
Life is the test God set before us that we may be judged.
BTW, are you trying to spread the Gospel to me or are you just acting holier than thou?
I am already a devout Christian so I know the Gospel. But there are many others around here who are not...have at it.
I don’t intend to be Holier than thou or spread the Gospel.
Only to explain my point of view.
Heck they’re doing it anyway - and no control in their communities unless by force.
