The Biden administration is finalizing plans to send the Patriot missile defense system to Ukraine that could be announced as soon as this week, according to two US officials and a senior administration official.
The Pentagon’s plan still needs to be approved by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin before it is sent to President Joe Biden for his signature. The three officials told CNN that approval is expected.
Ukraine has been calling for the US to send the advanced long-range air defense system that is highly effective at intercepting ballistic and cruise missiles as it comes under a barrage of Russian missile and drone attacks that have destroyed key infrastructure across the country. It would be the most effective long-range defensive weapons system sent to the country and officials say it will help secure airspace for NATO nations in eastern Europe.

That is an interesting point.
I had thought about the similarity to Vietnam before, but not the payback feature.
Unfortunately, it will cost $1 trillion to rebuild Ukraine, and USA tax payers and government debt will be funding most of that.
Russia did not rebuild Vietnam, Korea, and Afghanistan.
Just today, Mark Felton uploaded this on YouTube...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7I3Illsuqg
The Russians are apparently in the process of turning hundreds of their old Antonov An-2 biplanes into drones filled with explosives and send them towards Ukraine. The An-2s look like helicopters on radars because of their size and speed. The planes are worth 10s of 1000s of dollars each, but the missiles to shoot them down cost a million apiece. Ukraine will run out of missiles before Russia runs out of An-2s.
Apparently this use of the An-2 has already been tried in the Azerbaijan-Armenia war.
So, one question would be, how much does each Patriot missile cost and how many extras do we have?
The Russian PR memes are going to be hilarious.
Please send F-16s and Abrams tanks too.....
Using this system also requires a specialized team of operators; therefore, such a move certainly confirms US boots on the ground.
But NATO does not want to seek escalation.....
Right.

“The western power alliance continually ramping up aggressions to test how far it could provoke Russia is what led to this conflict in the first place. Now we’re at a point where there isn’t much space for Russia to back up before it’s against the ropes and potentially pressed to do something nobody wants. These people should not be talking about escalation, they should be talking about de-escalation. We need diplomacy, de-escalation and detente, and we need them yesterday.”

“Just like me man. Therefore I hereby grant me the privilege.”
I suppose we’re at an impasse. We’ll have to settle it with rock, paper, scissors.
In the meantime....

Full scale U.S. proxy war v. Russia.
Advanced weaponry, training, leadership/guidance, military equipment support, intelligence/targeting, everything except actual US military personnel on the ground although that’s probably pretty likely too.

The psychopaths running the country might as well declare all-out war with Russia
—
Why? Its cheaper to let the Ukrainians continue to totally destroy the once ‘vaunted’ Russian military.
Russians provided Houthis with anti-ship missiles which were fired at U.S. warships in the Red Sea, unsuccessfully.
—
And said Houthy missile battery was promptly eliminated with extreme prejudice.
Are you sure? Regardless, the U.S. ship had a right to navigate on the Red Sea, and retaliation is justified. The Russians have no right to Ukrainian territory or air space.
“The psychopaths running the country might as well declare all-out war with Russia, considering that we’re already involved in a proxy war with them.”
My first thought this could not be any more stupid. Are we really going to teach the Russians on how to defeat these systems. Also, if Ukraine falls, might as well give the Russians the blueprints.
The planes are worth 10s of 1000s of dollars each .. .missiles to shoot them down cost a million apiece.
—
Well since you priced everything out, what is your value on a human life? The human life that will be saved by shooting the junk plane down? Obviously, your calculations lead to a cost of substantially less that US$1 million per human life.
Are you sure? Regardless, the U.S. ship had a right to navigate on the Red Sea, and retaliation is justified. The Russians have no right to Ukrainian territory or air space.

Yes, and I was just correcting the record, not suggesting anything. But the Orcs have no business in Ukraine, agreed.
And our “leaders” move us closer and closer to outright war with Russia. The type of war nobody wins.
My point wasn’t about the cost/value of human lives. The An-2s, if they are used, have to be shot down as they can carry a considerable amount of explosive. The question is how long can Ukraine keep shooting them down? I doubt that they have that many missiles on hand.
The tactic has the potential of overwhelming Ukrainian air defenses by sheer numbers alone. And the missile used to shoot down the An-2 won’t be available to shoot down far more modern aircraft.
Assuming that Ukraine has AAA the An-2s should be easy targets. Odd that a ‘superpower’ like Russia finds it necessary to resort to using biplanes against a smaller weaker nation, but I find we are living in bizarre times.
Did you watch Felton’s YouTube video on this? I thought he explained the situation pretty well.
How much do they cost related to what they will be used against?
I’m sorry. I’ll add Banderist Neo-Nazis and Azov Battalion nutcases to the list. Add a little balance.
As for Aunty Semitism, she left town a while ago, last seen carrying off baskets of Hryvnias from the Last National Bank of Dnipropetrovsk.
Did you not notice they can be shot down by an AK 47? Or any modern projectile AA system ... no missiles needed.
No & why should I waste my time watching a video using a false premise: missiles.
