TACOMA, Wash. — The defense rested its case on Monday in the criminal misdemeanor trial of Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer, who returned for a second day of testimony.
The sheriff is accused of filing a false report that a Black newspaper carrier threatened to kill him.
On his second day on the witness stand, Troyer said he never requested the big police response when he called a back line to dispatch about a confrontation with a suspicious man in his neighborhood who Troyer said threatened him.
“I knew one or two units was all I needed to handle the situation,” Troyer said.
The man Troyer said he thought might have been a porch pirate was actually newspaper carrier Sedrick Altheimer, who testified last week that he never threatened Troyer.
“If he was calm and said I’m just delivering newspapers, I would have gotten out and introduced myself,” Troyer said.

There is video of the newspaper carrier being very agitated when the Tacoma police respond to the Sheriff's call (he was off-duty at the time and had just returned to his home).
From that video it is clear that he has anger issues, which may or may not be justified. However, it also seems to me that he is the type of person that could say something and in such a manner as to be taken as threatening.

The sheriff is in the white SUV. The carrier previously had gotten out of his car and confronted the sheriff and was within 4 to 5 feet while the sheriff was in his SUV with the window open.
The sheriff followed him as he was going by. The sheriff claimed he did not see any papers and thought he was a porch pirate.
(The prosecutor was aghast that he used the “derogatory” term porch pirate!)
The departments in the area wonder why they have a hard time getting anybody to work for them.

A reasonable person would just thank the officers for doing their job and every body would have just left.
I watched the video, just today, even before I had any idea, this thread was going to be on.
If I recall correctly from the first news reports Troyer was drunk and being an ass.

Why spread that trash? Everything you said is a damn lie, I live several counties west from the Pierce County area. Not once has there been any credible media reports stating Sheriff Troyer was drunk, nor was the incident at 4:00 AM.
This whole thing is a political show trial engineered by your BFF Inslee and his consigliere Little Bobbie Ferguson. They hate that the sheriffs are elected in 38 of the 39 Washington Counties. The mendacious reprobate corrupt governor and team chumped the idiot voters in King County to give up electing their sheriff in 2020.
Now the idiots have a puppet sheriff who works exclusively for your BFF Inslee, Dow Constantine doing their bidding rather than the citizens of King County. The one that he was found guilty of was an interoffice complaint.

It was a “he said, she said” type of thing. But it was obvious from the video that the paper carrier has anger issues and could have said “I’m going to take you out” while yelling and pumping himself up.
If anything, it goes to “reasonable doubt”.
Regardless, the liberals will have the biased news coverage to go back to come election day.
