So many folk ignorant of American history. Any of you ever heard of the Anglican Church. A faith controlled by the King and the British state?
What do you think happened to it during our Revolution?
Churches were closed by the government. Their buildings were burned by mobs. Priests arrested or forced out of the country and their property seized. Finally the church was forced to break all ties to Britain and became the independent Episcopal Church.
If you have a sect that has sworn loyalty to your oppressors it cannot continue to function.
We’re you great grandparents Russian Bolsheviks?
“Churches were closed by the government.”
Churches continues to worship during the American Revolution. All priests had been ordained in England as there were no bishops and some did return to England. Many stayed. Those whose congregations were loyal to the Revolution just scratched out all references to the monarchy in the Book of Common Prayer. Lay leaders read prayer services provided in the prayer book in churches without clergy. George Washington was such a lay leader in his parish. The new church, the Episcopal Church, wrote their Constitution in Philadelphia during the same time period the US Constitution was being written in Freedom Hall. Paul Revere was a member of the Old North Church in Boston and Patrick Henry gave his “give me freedom or give me death” proclamation from an Episcopal church in Richmond.
RIP Charles I
This is why we have a first amendment.
lol... Uke apologists are all the way down to defending persecution of Christians.
Just move to China, globaloid trashbag, where you belong. They use the same excuses to stomp Christians.
