the problem with artificial wombs that will never be solved is everything that goes with a natural womb. The rhythm of mom’s walking, the cadence of her voice, her stomach noises, the loving touches to her abdomen, the noises of her environment, the unique hormones she produces, the list goes on. Babies are not tadpoles.

The artificial womb, especially on the scale mentioned in the article, has only one purpose: creating large numbers of genetically modified human beings free from the possibility of contamination by unvetted “free range” DNA.
Once you clean up the human genome and begin introducing “improvements,” you don’t want it to be re-contaminated. Since the environment of the womb and the specific hormones, amounts, and timing all effect the developing child, it is logical that these engineers of superior human beings will want to control every aspect of their environment. Of course, reaching the point of “decanting,” as Huxley put it in “Brave New World,” is just the beginning of the process of raising the human crop to its full productive capacity. Many years of careful nurturing are still needed.
The product of this effort will be a human being - well, at least in the beginning - but he/she/it will also be a copyrighted, manufactured product.

I have a different take on this.
Instead of women seeking a termination of her unwanted pregnancy, women can have the developing fetus transferred to these artificial wombs where they would be allowed to develop fully and be born. Hopefully adopted by childless couples who for whatever reason cannot have them.

IIRC, this is what the inventor said once in a German newspaper - he is obviously a pro-lifer.
So, while this invention could be used for fell purposes, too, it seems not all bad to these old eyes.
