The 11th episode in the inaugural season of “The Andy Griffith Show” delivered one of the all-time great holiday episodes, so good the series never dared to try the theme again after “The Christmas Story” aired Dec. 19, 1960.
Despite being forced by crotchety, old Ben Weaver to arrest bootlegger Sam Muggins on Christmas Eve, Sheriff Andy Taylor still looks to preserve a decent Christmas in Mayberry.
Will Wright’s first of three guest appearances as Ben Weaver (actor Will Wright as Mayberry’s area Scrooge) marks a high point in the entire series. Grumpy and desperately lonely, Weaver picks on the little guy to survive the holidays, behavior that just won’t fly in Mayberry on Christmas Eve.
If you don’t well up when Weaver’s frosty exterior melts away as he hands out gifts to the children, then I just don’t know. Andy and Ellie’s tender duet of “Away in a Manger” still makes us yearn for the yuletide season.

Love that episode!
Andy Griffith was clearly your typical filthy, worthless showbiz pig...as phony as the day is long.
Aunt B hated Andy.

Maybe, but the Andy Griffith Show Christmas episode is required viewing in my house.
“Aunt B hated Andy.”
She was a difficult person herself, from what I’ve read
Homer - Jim Nabors - was a conservative Republican, so for those who think we should be judging the show by its actors’ personal politics, maybe that cancels out Andy’s Democrat leanings so they can enjoy the show in good conscience
Gomer not Homer
I think that the guys who played the hillbilly band - the Darlins - may have been Republicans. If so, does that make it ok to enjoy the show?
I love the show. The lake, “Upper Franklin Canyon Reservoir”, the lake Opie skipped the rocks across is just north of Beverly and Sunset. (Coldwater Canyon), LA area.
I hate to break it to you, but King David not only had an affair with the wife of one of his soldiers, but he then sent that soldier to the front lines so he would be killed and King David could have his wife all to himself.
King David. Phony as the day is long.
So I take it you also won’t watch Matlock?
King David never pretended to be a Christian.
Nope...I wouldn’t watch it even if I was convinced he was a basically decent man. Show like that don’t appeal to me.
He should have been shot for ‘Salvage One’ alone.
He was also a flaming homosexual.
Never fails. No one around here can bring up a nice TV show or good movie or historical figure or memorable song without feeling the need to be the turd in the punchbowl and bring out the sordid details of the lives of those involved. It must be depressing to be such a bitter killjoy.
OK then,most all are deceased.
“ King David never pretended to be a Christian.”
Actually, David acknowledged Christ and called him “my Lord”
Jesus himself tells us this. See Matthew 22:44.
This would make David a Christian before the incarnation of Christ
