Most likely none of those. People don’t like change, risk or discomfort. Remember that the majority of people who served in the military during WWII were drafted. It would probably require a direct and immediate threat to one self and one’s immediate family before they declare the line has been crossed.

Problem with that. If the direct threat is mass starvation, people would be too weak to fight.
Best defense against a direct existential threat isn’t to start CW II, but to plan ahead and create homegrown infrastructure that the guvermint has nothing to do with, keep it under the radar.
