Brevard County School District, held a heated meeting Thursday that offered an unvarnished and often disturbing glimpse into the state of its classrooms.
“On an everyday basis I am being attacked, scratched, headbutted, pushed, hit,” teacher Alicia Kelderhouse said. “I’ve had my hair pulled. I’ve had my throat gone for on multiple occasions.”
One teacher said her kids look at their devices “hundreds” of times each day and keep their earbuds in while lessons are in progress.
“Our students cannot look away from their phones,” she said. “They cannot stop texting.”
Ivey said classrooms have descended into chaos because kids no longer fear consequences.
“As a result, we are losing teachers en masse,” he said, calling disruptive students “clowns” who are impeding the education of their classmates.
Several speakers criticized Ivey at Thursday’s meeting, and highlighted that suspensions are in disproportionately high numbers to black students.
“Our children are not clowns,” said a local NAACP member. “They are not snot-nosed.” He accused Ivey of using “scare tactics” and “bullying” in pushing for disciplinary clampdowns.
Another speaker said the district should emphasize diversity, equity and inclusion in any new behavior code.
One parent argued that disruptive students — regardless of race — should be removed from classrooms.
“If you are throwing a chair in a classroom, you do not belong there,” she said. “I’m sorry. If you can’t behave, that’s not my child’s fault. My child’s education should not be hindered because that child doesn’t know how to behave. And by that child I don’t mean black, white, Hispanic or any other thing. I mean the child who wasn’t taught how to behave.”

Texting: passing notes in class on steroids.
I am guessing that all of those unruly children are whites.
search is your friend...
Just to see some heads explode the local Klan should send a representative to stand up for the disruptive behavior, supporting the NAACP by name in this instance, saying they are good with it as long as it insures minorities don’t get an education.
One teacher said her kids look at their devices “hundreds” of times each day and keep their earbuds in while lessons are in progress.
It may be what is being taught and the teacher. Considering what is taught is some of the classes. They are just putting int their time.
Now there are exceptions to the norm but what is the norm?
While I note a quote from the NAACP, it IS FL...maybe a large proportion of Hispanics?
And there are always some white wannabees.
Like the parent said: its a behavior issue from people who will not socialize their children properly. Discipline in class must be maintained and the unruly removed.
Maybe you can teach them in special caged corrals in tents outside.
Wouldn’t that be fun to hear discussed.
Great, go start another, private school. Problem solved.
Here is the truth, for those who can handle the truth.

Tough 💩. Teachers and their beloved unions have allowed this to happen. Teachers need to look in the mirror and recognize they caused the problem. It’s their decades of leftist indoctrination that has lead to several generations of out of control people that do no care about education. Simply put, teachers didn’t care about their own educations and they don’t care about those that they supposedly teach. Your actions have consequences. Karma’s a bitch.
Nice excerpt—reflecting, among other things, the confusion in the original article.
Ivey is the SHeriff, but I had to skim the article three times to figure that out as he is only identified in a picture caption.
FWIW—I imagine most of the African African and the Carribean Africans are not the problem, and the worst ones are the ones who went, or whose ancestors went, to finishing school in New York and New England before heading down to pursue the dream of Florida man.
They don’t text. They’re all on TikTok, WhatsApp, or other group-based media apps.

That’s absolutely where every major public school district is headed. It’s much easier to write position papers than it is to bring order to classrooms.
I taught for decades in urban high schools. My last school was roughly 50% black and 50% white. Permit me to make two comments.
1. Even in my worst classes, the majority of kids were okay. Their major problem was attendance. Missing one or two days out of every five was not uncommon. But when they were there, they tried to learn.
Those kids, black and white, who show up and try to learn are the real victims of chaotic classrooms. They are being robbed of their education.
2. Most of my small-problem disruptive students were black. They’d talk in class, refuse to stay in their seats, use their cell phones, etc. It was as the article noted.
But the true psycho kids were almost always white. It was because of them that I kept a weapon on my desk. That weapon was a heavy ring stand pole. I was a science teacher, so it did not look out of place.
Yeah, I know those are crude terms, but it is an accurate assessment based upon the overwhelming evidence.
Same difference. Not paying attention to what might profit them, only what profits from them.

No it isn’t. Search here is FUBAR
I fled a chaotic Florida school district (as a teacher) in 1974.
50? That’s it? That’s a good year for a mid-sized high school in Virginia.
What school district ?
Cocoa or Palm Bay ?
