I've been real ID qualified 3 times, 3 different states. It helps LOTs in terms of convenience to have a US passport. One of the states, Colorado in the late 1990s, was even before the real ID law existed IIRC
In GA in the early 2000s, I had to get a GA drivers license. No problem for me, I had all the state documentation covered. Still took a 5 hour wait at the DMV. Jerks. When my number was close to being called, I moved to the front row of crappy plastic chairs. A DL applicant at the counter 10 ft in front of me went up with “minder” with him”. The DMV agent would ask a question or request a document and the minder would answer. Problem was the applicant had zero English, obviously illegal and the minder would start talking. The second time this happened, the DMV agent told the minder to shut up and if not she would call over the policeman to arrest her.
IMHO, the exact reason why some states dragged and still are dragging on implementing real ID is voting. Nothing else makes sense to me. It's not a big deal to me to prove your identity and citizenship. I'm proud of it.
Every two years it get extended another two years because liberal states are incapable of following the law

Thanks for the dose of reality. It seems you can be a non taxpaying drain on society for a long time. It just doesn’t pay to be an honest hard worker.

so i won’t be able to fly anymore without this made up REAL id? That’s ridiculous.
That’s how I understand it.
Real ID’s must be legislated as a requirement for voting in the elections of all federal offices.

Even before, the B$ was creeping in. My wife and I were married in a church and the minister filled out the data and sent it to the state we were married in (1961). That worked for over 4 decades, and then B$ appeared until we stopped flying. Her current Cali driver’s licensed and her Cali ID are valid for everything except flying 2 years from now.
Then, about 2 decades ago, my wife was getting all types of static even with passports to fly anywhere. There was no problem with cruises to Mexico and Canada.
Since, my name didn’t change when we got married. I never got hassled like she did. Ironically, being married to her never impacted any flights with or without her.
Turned out that, who/DHS? was in charge decided that her documentation was no longer valid, and it took a couple of years to find out why. We had to contact the state where she was born and where we got married to basically re start the whole process. Apparently, her driver’s licenses and passport for several decades had no impact on their stupidity.
The irony was the documentation, which they didn’t accept for her to fly, was valid enough for me to get a top secret/crypto clearance in the Navy from 1962 to when I was honorably discharged.
When we did fly, I got zero hassles with a standard Ca. Driver’s license. She got B$ from the check in and often the boarding process.
So, we just pulled the plug on flying.
