You can bet that Musk knew about his guy and was using him to identify where the Deep State bodies were hidden.

I think Baker worked directly under Vijaya Gadde (General Counsel), so when Musk fired Gadde, Baker was probably watched carefully to see if he would try to hide evidence and obscure some paper trails left visible or revealed by her sudden departure.
