When you encourage customers to do their own checkout and bagging, there are bound to be “mistakes made” and “items inadvertently missed with the scanner.”

Most people are honest but when you put the temptation right in their hands some are going to fudge on it. And with the price of things today they can rationalize it with thinking how much Walmart is making on these new higher prices.

If Walmart wants to cut down on it they need to hire more checkers and close down the self-check option. Which they won’t because employees cost a lot, are unreliable, and can sue you. Not to mention, steal from you, as well.

I concur... self check-out is gonna be a universal money sink. You’d think 3-4 extra cashiers hired at $16-20 per hour would pay for themselves vs. theft losses.
