He’s an FBI lawyer. He’s not bright enough to properly destroy records. If he tried, there would very likely be logs somewhere showing his tampering, which could ultimately make life worse for him (not that I’d cry about it).
It's very hard to destroy information from systems that are managed by other systems (corporate eamail system provided by Bluehost, Ionos, Web.com for instance) that are designed to have the ability to restore lost data, and are not designed to have a "purge" function.
