We were told G W MORON was ideologically pure. Look how that turned out. Forgive our cautious skepticism.

“and hasn’t alienated as many people has trump has.”

His threats against DeSantis alienated millions of Floridians.

Trump has no chance against DeSantis in Florida.

I just came back from Orange County CA. No talk about Trump. Enthusiasm for DeSantis.

Sorry, but when scum like Paul RYNO are endorsing him, that raises some major red flags.

Do you mean the Paul Ryan that President Trump himself endorsed? (Aug 5th, 2016)

Trump also endorsed John McCain (Aug 5th, 2016), Mitt Romney (Feb 20th, 2018), and Mitch McConnell (June 19th, 2020).

Most of the people who I associate with would vote for Trump if he is the nominee, very few of them would prefer him over DeSantis or someone like him and will vote accordingly

I suspect the primaries will settle this, just hoping they don’t destroy each other in the process

Trump has no chance against DeSantis in Florida.

And here's Georgia (where the Walker campaign pleaded with Trump to stay away).

If the GOP presidential nominee can't win Georgia, he can't win the White House.

” just hoping they don’t destroy each other in the process”

DeSantis will take the high road ignoring Trump’s vile attacks.

Every aspect of the deep state and big government today owes its existence in one way or another to Theodore Roosevelt.

E.g. the Great White Fleet.

“His every utterance seems calculated to send progressives into a frenzy. He’s one of the most prolific political fundraisers in America. His endorsements of other like-minded America First conservative candidates help those beneficiaries pull ahead in crowded primaries. And the worst-kept secret in American politics is that he wants to swap out his Sunshine State address for 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as soon as possible.

No, the politician is not Donald Trump but rather Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who lately seems bent on executing just about every page of the former president’s political playbook—only with a sunnier demeanor, less offensive language and fewer of the personal antics that make Trump so polarizing. At 43, the once little-known backbench congressman has transformed himself into perhaps the hottest, most consequential political figure of his generation so far—possibly the only one capable of going head-to-head with Trump for the GOP nod in 2024 and with a shot at taking the presidency away from Joe Biden or whoever the Democrats nominate. The only real question is whether he’ll run against Trump if the former president enters the race or risk his flame burning out by waiting until 2028 or beyond.

“He is Trump without the boorish behavior and name calling, the insults and the bullying—the very reasons Trump lost suburban women in 2018 and lost a significant number of college-educated suburban men in 2020,” says Jim Dornan, a veteran GOP strategist who worked on Trump’s 2015 exploratory campaign committee and this year is advising Republican candidates in Oregon, Maryland and California. “On the Republican Party circuit, whether it’s in D.C .or the suburbs, DeSantis is the first name that comes up when people start talking about 2024.”

By their record DeSantis is clearly more conservative than Trump. This is sort of the opposite of the situation we usually find ourselves in

Without question. The only argument against DeSantis anyone can seem to come up with is that he isn't a billionaire, who might have to rely on someone to help finance his campaign, as if Trump's own billions didn't come from somewhere other than a secret printing press down in the basement of Trump tower.

Nope, GWBush was thought of as a lightweight and establishment candidate in the same vein as his father. Then we picked McCain who wasn’t all that conservative, and then Romney and now we want to do it again.

“Ron who?”

I admit that I don’t get the appeal of DeSantis.
However, he has a following on Free Republic, so he needs to be taken seriously IMO.

Will get my vote in the primaries? Answer: “No he will not.”
