Trump knew he had the Article II power to dismiss Congress on Jan 6. He had been advised of his Article II power from Day One, by everyone from Bannon to Kushner:
"He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States." - The Constitution of the United States, Article II, Section 3
In April 2020, President Trump threatened to use Article II to dismiss Congress over blocking him from recess appointments. President Trump knew he had that power -- the exact same power he would have used to remand the presented elector's slates in 2020 back to each state's legislature.

Much of this is his regret over not having done so.

The constitution has already been suspended. No part of our current illegitimate govt is operating within the constitution. There is no way to fix this without drastic action. Trump is well aware of what needs to happen. He’s just trying to bring the public along so they are mentally prepared for it.

yes-Trump should know now not to give them so much ammmo to shoot him with-not his best move
= = =

So Trump goes quieter, or even silent.

“Trump is hiding. Does not deny charges. Will not respond to investigators. Has lost all support. etc.”

Can Trump win in 2024 without attracting voters beyond those already firmly committed to voting for him?

Only if people wake up and are able to connect the dots when this recession/inflation/energy crisis/border crisis worsens over the next two years.

Okay, good point. These are issues that affect people's bottom line in practical, visible ways every day. Those are issues that are on voters' minds.

Would Trump better attract "swing" voters if he talked more about those issues, instead of the 2020 election?

And lots of normal people do. Don’t insult people just because they disagree with you.

“He expressed himself badly ....again. After 5 or 6 years of this, he should know better.”

Well, there’s Mike Pence, Ted Cruz, and Hillary Clinton. I’m not sure that Barack, Michelle, or Joe, always express themselves well, but they are Democrats and different standards apply.

Of course, it is good to express oneself well. But it’s not the only thing. I want someone who is patriotic, courageous, and takes good actions. Two examples of good actions follow. Trump freed the American oil industry during his tenure. Anyone could have done it, but it seems that only one politician would have done it. Trump made judicial appointments that moved the courts in the direction of law abiding.

While it is a bitter pill to swallow, Trump showed us, intentionally or not, that the Republican establishment works with Democrats to bring socialism to the land.

“ Five-dimensional chess, I’m sure.”

7 dimensional actually. And probably involves imminent disclosure of super intelligent aliens revealing theirselves .

What kind of a jerk are you? You wrote earlier “Then you are either suffering from a bad case of TDS or you have Dyslexia and its not just you, many on this site have the same problem.” And likely other idiotic statements of long-term people on FR who have a different opinion than you. Or would you prefer that we all start question your IQ as a prospective Kool-Aid drinker so blinded, like an Obama supporter to be oblivious to reality? Seriously, insults get us nowhere and degrade the conversation, so, please, be respective of all of us on FR, even if you disagree with us, and like with regards to Trump, where we’ve changed our minds.

If that is what he wanted to say, he should have said it. Instead of what he actually said.

OMG, crocodile tears, really hope your keyboard didn’t get wet.

I must have hit a nerve to receive such a diatribe, which label got to you? the TDS or the dyslexia? Maybe it was being lumped together with a lot Never Trumpers that ae on this site. The fact that you think you have been insulted certainly goes along with not being able to read and understand plain English which is what Mr. Trump wrote.

The truth does hurt sometimes especially those that cannot see it but I didn’t write that to hurt your feelings or anybody else, I just tell it like I see it.
