So this bill is going to prop up failing newspapers? Or is it something else?

It's a tough call. In theory this will force the social media companies to pay the news organizations when they serve up the media's stories.

As it is, the socials get hugely rich off of others' content and don't spread the wealth.

Lots of people here seem to be rooting for Twitter, Google and Facebook - which is...a change.

Nothing stops those new sources from putting their content behind a pay wall. But then, of course, all those advertisers on that page will not get clicks, and the propaganda arm of the dnc will dry up and go away faster. How many people who click to follow an article from a social media site, do so only to witness the moral depravity on display? Maybe a little less lecturing, and some even handedness when reporting the news would be better for these companies.
