Elon Musk Declares War on Apple
TheStreet via MSN ^ | NOVEMBER 28 2022 | Luc Olinga

The dispute between the world's richest man and the world's biggest corporation spills into the open.

It was inevitable.

The rivalry between Elon Musk, the world's most influential CEO, and Apple (AAPL) - Get Free Report, the biggest company, was going to turn into an all-out fight between two brands that don't want to share the throne of innovation

Musk, the richest man in the world, is a visionary who believes he has no rival and has still always been jealous of the cult of Apple.

The iPhone maker enjoys its reputation as the most revolutionary company, and its iconic co-founder, Steve Jobs, remains one of the most respected innovators.

Musk and his Tesla (TSLA) - Get Free Report and SpaceX believe they have done much more to transform the world in recent years than has Apple, which since the iPhone has only released the Apple Watch and possibly the iPad.

For a long time the rivals never turned to direct confrontation, preferring to confront each other indirectly. But when Musk became the owner of Twitter (TWTR) - Get Free Report on Oct. 27, the confrontation became inevitable.

That's because Apple is an app distributor, and its content policy diverges with the approach of Musk, who regards himself as a "free-speech absolutist" even when it comes to hate speech.

You must admit Musk has vision. It is something Tim Cook lacks.

Musk won't absolutely need his own phone, either, as Gab has already been long working around app prohibition by simply building a better browser interface, which Twitter could easily do as well

All true.

I'm talking about the phone. I don't use any "apps"

The Samsung tablet I have (but never use) says "powered by android".

Will he produce a new generation of satellite phones using his Starlink instead of 5G, etc.? Imagine not needing ground infrastructure. Who cares if Angry Birds, etc. is not on the phone when it is first released?

You miss-read me. I would prefer to not have a phone.

My phone is a communication device, nothing more. Not a computer or a device I need to tell me what free speech is.

Not necessarily. There already are many OS platforms that are not android compatible. All one needs is an OS that conforms with ccurrent internet connectivity protocols. Musk could probably build his own world wide web with his own connectivity protocols. Just needs a ton of nodes....hmmm...ya’ think Starlink could do it?

The degree of leftist slant in that article is enough for your drink to slide right off the table.

The Rabbit Hole @TheRabbitHole84 Replying to @elonmusk 97.5% of Apple's donations are to the Democratic Party. Twitter allowing free speech is against party interests so Apple must play the role of enforcer.

Nailed it. Cook is going to back the Chi-coms in their current “situation”. Musk, to early to tell.

Apple is not on the same level as Musk when it comes to innovation. Not even close. Musk is more diversified in his products and is always seeking something new. He is a risk taker, he can afford to be.

You can fork Android in a heartbeat, that’s what Kindle did. There’s nothing wrong with the core of Android, which is largely Linux with 100’s of open source libraries integrated into a platform glued together with Google code. So long as you have the source, which is open, you can do with it what you want.

And?
Part of innovation is making the best use of available technology which ends up leading to ne technologies.

The 30% fee charged by Apple is the same as the 30% fee charged by Google. Both are constraints upon free enterprise.

That is so very true. Cellular phones are no longer a technological big deal. They are no more than a compact computer touchscreen system that happens to have a cellular radio module as a peripheral. Most of those come from one source: Telit in Italy.

Elon Musk reminds me somewhat of Steve Jobs. Only Steve Jobs with 10x the engineering brain.

Over the years I've come to greatly admire the Apple product line and use most of their products personally. However, I have to admit that Apple has not really done anything really innovative and new since the death of Steve Jobs. Almost all their profits derive from product lines developed when Jobs was still alive.

It should be easy for people to be able to have a mobile utility/browser app (MUBA) to add shortcuts to their screens with whatever O/S they use (i.e. Android or iOS) where their MUBA gets invoked when they click on the shortcut and handles browser caching, HTTPS web requests/responses, and does all of whatever an app is supposed to do. The App Store model will die if Google/Apple stay so greedy.
