Also, AirBNB poured lots of money into fighting an initiative on the ballot in Portland that would regulate AirBNB properties some and it got defeated, so the housing shortage in Portland continues as people buy up houses simply for vacation rental.

AirBNBs in Portland Maine are already regulated. The two measures we defeated at the polls would have established even more draconian regulations on the operations of AirBNBs. One of the two were part of a package of excessive regulation foisted by the Democratic Socialist’s of America. Only one of their measures passed which related to “rent control” Even after the election, I cannot figure out what its purpose is or how it will be enforced. The city already has “rent control” which I put in parenthesis as it allows generous rent increases. But the DSA can say they are doing something.
